Deputy Principal's News

Dear Parents,

Today is the 1st of August, we are already into the 8th month of the year.  It seems like the year is flying! Today’s Psalm is ‘How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, mighty God! – Psalm 83(84):3-6, 8, 11’ We are so fortunate here at St James to be beginning the month of August in a lovely renovated school building.  We are all truly proud of the place we come to each day to learn together for this we are thankful!

A reminder about the Beginning of the School Day

(revised procedure as off 18th July, 2019)

As a staff we have revised our beginning of the school day routines.  The school doors will now remain closed until 8.50am (Main yard and Tilley yard).  The supervision of students by staff begins at 8.40am. There are two teachers on before school duty, one on the Mainyard and one on the Tilley yard.  At 8.50am the teacher on before school duty (Main yard and Tilley) will open the school doors, students can go to their classrooms and put their bags away, then either go back outside or stay in the room until the music starts playing.  At this point they need to move to their respective classrooms (ensuring that they use the bridge) ready for the start of the school day. The school bell will sound at 8.55am. All students should be in their classrooms ready to start lessons at this time.

If students arrive to school after this time, commencing from 9.00am they will need to go to the front office (entering via the Main yard), where they will need to sign in via VPass and be issued with a late pass.   At 9.15am all gates and doors will be locked to secure our school, so you will need to make your way to the front office through the Main yard to sign in or out to access the school. All visitors to the school will be directed to the front office.  At 3.20pm the gates on the Tilley building will be unlocked.

The bridge is our new gateway to connecting both buildings, so we need to ensure that we utilise it when moving from one side of the school to the other.

The Australian Maths Competition is a yearly event  open to students in Years 3-6.  As per the Caremonkey notice sent earlier in the Term, all students in Years 3-6 were invited to participate.  The school will be covering the entry fee of $6.50 per student. On Friday over 100 of our students from years 3-6 will be participating in the Australian Maths Competition online.   We wish them well.
