Year 10 Work Experience
Congratulations to all Year 10 students who have recently completed one week of work experience.
Melton Secondary College would like to thank all of the local employers who hosted our students.
Students have gained valuable work skills. The opportunity to work with adults develops student's confidence, communication skills and provides them with an insight into possible career pathways.
Some of the work placements visited by the Careers Team last week were:
- Westgate Aged Care, Newport
- Night Train Automotive, Melton
- Pelican Childcare Centre, Deer Park
- Mazza's Forklift Maintenance, Deer Park
- Bacchus Marsh Hospital
- Peter Thomson Architect, Bacchus Marsh
- Melton City Council, IT Department
All employers commented on the students' suitability to work in these industries in the future.
A reminder that Year 11 VCAL students will complete 2 weeks of structured work placement (11 to 21 June). If you are able to assist students with an employment opportunity please contact the Careers Team.
Melton Career Expo
Year 12 students attended the Melton Careers Expo at Tabcorp Park on 28 May, engaging in career pathway conversations with many exhibitors from Universities, TAFEs, private providers, RTOs, Apprenticeship Groups and employers. This year presentations from the Defence Forces and Victoria Police were also included as possible pathways for students. Students also attended a lecture on the VTAC process for University/TAFE applications.
Our VET Hairdressing Trainer, Carolyn Galea attended the Melton Career Expo with Year 2 students, promoting our Trade Training Centre and the VET Salon Assistant program offered at our school.
VET Cert II Salon Assistant - Make-Up Demo Day
On Thursday 23rd May, our 2nd Year VETiS WEC Salon Assistant students were visited by an industry Hair and Make-Up Artist. This is to compliment the unit “Design and Apply Makeup,” studied in Year 2 of the program.
Adamo Di Biase from Bodyography Professional Cosmetics, dazzled our students with his make-up artistry skills and experience. Adamo is currently working in hair and make-up on Channel 9’s Destination Happiness Season 3. He has worked as a session stylist on runway shows, photo shoots and magazine features and is a HBIA gold trophy winner.
Adamo applied make-up to Martina, who happened to be celebrating her 17th birthday on the day. The session included demonstrating, explaining and answering questions from eager students wanting to know all about make-up and the industry. After the demonstration, students had the opportunity to show Adamo their skills and be guided by him in their make-up application. They were buzzing afterwards!
Trade Training Centre Tours
On Friday, 31 May selected students from Year 9 visited the Trade Training Centres at Kurunjang SC, Staughton College, CRC Melton and Melton SC to explore the various VET programs that can be selected in Year 10. Students were guided through the Electro Technology, Building/Construction, Engineering, and Salon Assistant facilities. Students received information on VET programs that will assist with subject selection that will take place in Term 3.
