Rugby 2nd June 2018:  This week sees the ISA competition commence for all sides, with St Pius hosting Oakhill College in all age groups except the 16Cs who play Kinross. There is a slight change in the draw that was published and emailed to parents with adjustments in the 13A and 13C fixture times

Kinross Wolaroi School, Orange, 16th June 2018

To assist in your planning, the annual away trip to Orange is on Saturday 16th June. The matches on the day do not usually commence until 11am, giving students time to travel up on the day. If you son requires transport via coach they need to add their name to the list on the admin veranda. This coach will depart Chatswood at 6:30am and return at the completion of the 1st XV match.

Often parents take the opportunity to have a weekend away and the rugby committee have organised a dinner on Friday evening at the Lord Anson which is located opposite the Orange Ex-Services Club. Please be aware that the College photo day will be held on Friday 15th June and no students will be granted early leave to travel to Orange until after lunch on that day.

Please check Woodchatta weekly for all the latest Rugby news throughout the season or contact Mr Lynch at JLynch@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au for any general rugby enquiries.

FROM THE RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

A Rugby Cocktail

It was a mixed bag of results on Saturday against Scots and St Joseph's Colleges with five wins, five losses and two draws.  We saw a remarkable performance from Frank Houlihan (14Bs) who scored four tries in the 36-all Draw with Scots.

What impresses me most at the moment is the number of  players, especially in our all -conquering 15A and 16A teams, who are developing into superb running athletes. Natural physical development takes place at this age and with a carefully chosen gym program, we can see players become extremely good players very quickly.  We have some extremely talented players in our 15/16 age range.

Correct technique, monitored physical development and positive attitude can take you a long way, and not only on the sporting field.

SPX RUGBY CLUB DINNER – FRIDAY EVENING, 22ND JUNE 2018 – ROSEVILLE GOLF CLUB

Dear SPX Rugby Supporters,

Tickets are now on sale for the SPX Rugby Supporters’ Club Dinner to be held from 7pm on Friday, 22nd June at the Roseville Golf Club. Come and enjoy a great night of fun and entertainment and help raise funds for our rugby playing sons.  The link below will take you directly to the Trybooking Ticketing Site;

https://www.trybooking.com/385301

We are delighted again to have former Wallaby, current Rugby Australia Elite Coaching Development Officer, and Fox Sports’ personality, Rod Kafer as our MC for the evening.

Also, we are very fortunate to have a very special guest speaker for the evening - Mick Byrne, the current Australian Wallabies’ skills coach, and former New Zealand All Blacks’ skills coach. Mick knows both Aussie and Kiwi rugby in detail and has stories to tell!

Tickets are $150 per head (unchanged from last year), which includes canapes and drinks on arrival, a three course meal with wine and beer, great entertainment, live auctions, silent auctions, raffles and lucky door prizes.

This year, every ticket holder who books their ticket by Tuesday, 12 June will go into a draw for a chance to win the ‘Golden Lucky Door Prize’ of $500 in cash, drawn at the dinner. Book early and win!

The dinner is the Rugby Club’s principal fund raising event for the year and we rely on your support at our dinner to raise the money needed to fund initiatives that improve your son’s Rugby development and enjoyment in ‘our’ game that also forms life-long friendships which our boys will develop through their involvement in SPX rugby.

Again, this season the Rugby Club has budgeted to spend in excess of $50,000 to assist the College in the further development of the rugby program, in both the Senior and Junior Colleges – including funding the Rugby Development Officer and 7 external assistant rugby coaches, provision of physiotherapy services at our home games; financial support for College touring squads (Opens – Gold Coast Tour; Under 15’s – New Zealand Tour; Prep First XV – Armidale TAS Tour); filming and analysis of games; and, financially supporting students’ referee accreditation courses.

Support your sons. Enjoy a great night out. We look forward to seeing you at the SPX Rugby Dinner!

Regards,

Paul O’Neill (on behalf of the SPX Rugby Supporters’ Club Committee)

ISA Tennis

Well done to our teams last Saturday. Playing against Oxley College and Redlands we saw some fantastic gameplay.

Congratulations go to Divisions 4, 6, 7 and 9 for convincingly trouncing their opponents. Also, well done to our Division 1 team for some great skill and determination on the courts. Their match was truly a sight to see and came down to the wire, with every point in every set being hard fought. Ultimately, our players narrowly missed out on the win.

This weekend our teams are playing against several schools in four locations. Please check the draw carefully.
