How things affect living things

By Ayisha L

I think we should not throw our rubbish on the ground. Why we should not throw our rubbish on the ground is so we don’t hurt our sea life and so we protect our world. How we don’t hurt our sea life is a simple thing – don’t litter and find a bin!

What does it do to living things?

The animals eat plastic, or the animals get it stuck around their throat. Sea creatures also get stuck in the nets, and a lot of animals die because of it.

How does the rubbish get in the water in the first place?

It goes into the streets and then it goes down a drain and into the sea.

Water pollution

Water pollution is caused by chemicals and oil spilling in the water. Even washing our dishes or clothes (washing the dirt off) and also the steam from the water runs into the rivers, I think it is bad because you drink it and animals and plants also need it to live.

I do not like water pollution because it is awful for people, sea life and wildlife. We should have clean water and think about what we use, so we are not killing living things!

Plastic Pollution

By Abbie Q

I think people should recycle because if people don’t recycle then living things may eat rubbish and die.

People drink from plastic bottles, and often they throw it in the wrong bin. The bin is the recycle bin. You know it is that bin because it is the big yellow one. If you throw it in that bin people reuse it, or it is recycled into something new.

Also, people throw their rubbish on the ground, and it is carried down drains away. Then sea animals eat it, or it gets stuck around their throat and kills them. They also choke on the plastic. It’s not just plastic bottles; it’s any kind of rubbish that people throw on the ground.

It affects living things because a living thing needs food. When people throw not just plastic bottles but any type of rubbish, all of it affects living things in some way. Animals are attracted to rubbish because they think it is food, so they eat it.

Scientists discovered that 8,000,000 tons of plastic leak into the oceans every year. Like plastic bottles, plastic straws and many other things. The only reason why people buy plastic is that it is cheaper, but most plastic is only used once.

It takes a lot of energy to make plastic, and unless we recycle and reuse it, the waste will continue to kill our planet!

Stop Abandoning Animals

By Stephanie K

It’s cold, and the wind is howling. The rain is pouring down. You are hungry, sad and all alone. You have nowhere to go. That is how it feels when you are abandoned. Abandoning animals should not be tolerated.

To begin, how would you feel if you were abandoned? Abandoned animals have no food, water or warmth. Approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are killed every year, and approximately 3.2 million animals are abandoned. That is very bad. Did you also know that some abandoned animals die in hot cars? That is very sad.

People always get animals at Christmas that they can’t take of. Why don’t you ask the person first or give it to someone who you know will take of it? Taking care of pets is a big commitment.

Our World today can be very cruel! Please stop abandoning animals. Take care of your pets and if there are fireworks don’t leave their side. Think about buying an animal from a shelter before you buy one from the shop and never leave animals in hot cars.

Pollution Problems

By Vignesh S

Did you know one in ten deaths are attributable to air pollution? Air pollution is a big problem, and it is taking over the world. Together we need to lower air pollution levels.

Ever since the Industrial Revolution, our earth has been getting more industrialised. This might seem like a good thing, but it isn’t. As more houses, buildings and factories are being built, we’re losing more land and creating more pollution. We should either utilise what we have or make buildings smaller. By doing this, it will benefit nature, animals and the human race.

Secondly, we should start using more electric cars. Unlike petrol cars, electric cars don’t burn petrol. This means we’re not creating carbon dioxide [CO2]. If you can’t afford electric cars, I encourage you to switch to newer car models or hybrid cars. This will significantly decrease air pollution levels.

Lastly, we should start using sustainable and renewable energy, such as solar energy, biofuels and water energy. We need to avoid using nuclear and fossil fuel energy because these fuels are not sustainable or renewable. When something is sustainable that means it doesn’t damage the environment. We can collect solar energy with solar panels. You might say you can’t afford solar panels, but a new government initiative supplies half the money for all Victorian’s. By using these alternative fuels, air pollution can be lowered.

As a result, by doing these simple things we can benefit us and our future generations. We will have healthy wellbeing and fewer effects of deaths.

Air Pollution

By Armani

Air pollution isn’t such a big problem in Australia, but in developing countries it is. In developing countries, they burn wood and coal so that they can stay warm in their houses but they end up breathing smoke too. We must look at ways to reduce air pollution!

Firstly, if you have an old polluting car, I encourage you to buy a brand new car. New vehicles like electric cars reduce air pollution drastically.

Secondly, people should have the rights to breathe fresh air even when people don’t mean to pollute the air. Did you know that some people need to stay inside or wear masks to go outside instead of having their rights to breathe?

In conclusion, we should not pollute the air at all. Please make sure that you do anything you can to reduce the air pollution and to keep our ozone healthy.
