Design Technology

This semester, the Students at The Lakes have been making amazing things in Design Technology.

They have learnt many skills and applied them to create a wide variety of objects of their own design. Some of the creations were made using a range of tools and equipment engaged in woodworking techniques, while other objects have been designed by students, using Computer Aided Design software, and then manufactured operating a laser cutter. The laser cutter can cut both plastic and wood, but only flat 2 dimensional pieces. Some students were able to extend themselves to creating 3 Dimensional objects they designed but could only cut very accurate 2 dimensional pieces. They then had to assemble these pieces to create their final 3 dimensional article. This is a very complicated thing to do for people beginning to learn these skills and I am amazed how well our students have done. The Year 8 students created toys for some of the Prep students on Early Years. I am very much looking forward to next year and beyond when our students extend on their new skills to a higher level. What will they create next?
