Bon Apétit!

As part of our Year 10 French studies about travelling around France, we have been learning about the importance of French food, menus, courses and restaurant etiquette.

To bring this cultural aspect to life, our students were fortunate enough to sample some French delicacies.  They first enjoyed a cheese course with crusty baguette and D’Affinois cheese, a blue cheese made in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. The boys were very adventurous and did not hesitate in trying something new. For dessert, they enjoyed sampling some crème caramel and chocolate profiteroles.

Our students have said that they would be more than happy to sample more French delicacies in the future, to bring an authentic element to our languages classroom!

We undertook this event prior to government advice around COVID-19 and social distancing.

Home Library

A range of high-quality resources are available on every students' Portal page. This virtual library of eResources and databases supports students' online learning at home as well as their recreational reading. Key resources include:

  • Britannic Encyclopedia School edition
  • ClickviewOnline – educational videos, documentaries and ‘books to movies’
  • DramaOnline
  • Ebooks and Audiobooks
  • JSTOR
  • Science in Context
  • World History in Context
  • the Library website with curated subject, research and reading guides

To support students' online learning, students can use the Ask a Teacher Librarian service.  Email support is provided for all our library services including reading, bibliography and citation or research-related help.

Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the online resources offered by their local library. This includes research databases, ebook and audio book collections. The guide, Accessing other Library collections outlines what’s available. Did you know you can now use your local library card to access the State Library of NSW eResources?

The College’s excellent ebook and audiobook collection provides plenty of choice with nearly 2000 ebooks and 800 audiobooks on offer. Students can easily access it using their school logins. As the prospect of isolation and quarantines loom, the value of reading in our lives has never been more relevant, as Mason Cooley said,

'Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.'
