Edmund Rice Hours (CIP)

St. Pius X College has run it’s Edmund Rice Hours Program (CIP) to ensure that our young men receive a holistic education, one characterised by a social conscience and willingness to work with the disadvantaged and marginalised.  This is very much in the spirit of the work modelled by Blessed Edmund Rice in Ireland. We presently find ourselves in a time of social distancing for the safety of ourselves and others, meaning that the opportunities for students to complete hours have all but closed, including venues such as: Matthew Talbot Hostel, Willowood Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels and Centacare to name but a few.

Given that so many venues have closed to comply with the government’s social distancing regulations, it has been decided that our Edmund Rice Hours Program for 2020 will be cancelled. What this means is that our Year 11 students completed the program when they were in Year 10, while our Year 10 students will complete their required hours as a Year 11 student.

While this is not the best case regarding the education of our students, it seemed the only decision that could be made in the interests of the safety of our students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who worked at organising initiatives for their son to be involved. Once our society returns to some sense of normality, information will be made available to Year 10 on what the program will look like.

Project Compassion Appeal

On behalf of the College, I would like to thank all families who have contributed to the Project Compassion Lenten Appeal over the past three weeks. Due to the current climate, and given reduced student numbers, on-campus collections have been placed on hold on an indefinite basis. To date, we have raised $5,554 for Caritas Australia.

Families will be able to continue to support the appeal online by using our SPX Online fundraising page:

Thank you for your generosity and your ongoing support of the SPX Social Justice Program.
