Year 8 & 9
Assistant Principal's Report
Hard to believe we are at the end of term three and that we are drawing closer to the end of the year. This term our middle years students have been working hard getting through the curriculum as they gear up for end of year assessments and exams. We’ve had some events that have been the highlight of the term, namely our Night at the Museum and Science Fair. It was great to see so many families and community members at school, and the amount of work our students put in was outstanding.
We have weekly year level assemblies at the College and both our Year 8 and 9 tutor groups have been rotating taking these assemblies. It has been fantastic to watch our young people speak before their peers and really put themselves out there. We always have a game and a volunteer from each tutor group (sometimes even the tutor teacher) compete on behalf of their class. We’ve played 'Are you smarter than a 5th grader', 'Jeopardy', 'Finish the Lyrics Karaoke', 'Basketball Toss' and even 'Musical Chairs'! Points are awarded to the winning class and tallied up at the end of each term.
A program that has run over the term that has also had great success is Blue Edge. This has been a partnership with Victoria Police and has involved about 20 students who have come together twice a week to do sport in the gym before school, have breakfast then undertake a session in a classroom focused on team building and social skill development. The growth we have seen in some of the participants has been remarkable. They are finishing the program on the last day of term by going to Lady Northcote YMCA camp down near Bacchus Marsh. Here they will be spending the day engaging in outdoor activities such as high ropes and the giant swing. A great way for them to end the term.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8
Year 8 Report
The year 8’s have had a busy term 3. The last month has been jammed packed with science week, book week, night of the museum and wear it purple day.
At the beginning of August, it was great to see our year 8’s participating in the musical Legally Blonde Jr. Many of the major roles and behind the scenes roles were taken by our year 8’s. A big congratulations to the Music and Arts department and all who participated.
On August the 16th the year 8’s got to experience a live performance by Brainstorm Productions called Wired. It was interactive theatre experience that tackles some of the big issues affecting Australian students, including social isolation, bullying, online safety, school stressors, family relationships and pressure from social media. It addressed barriers to help-seeking and provided strategies for resilience, problem-solving, goal-setting and positive mental health. Students were engaged throughout the presentation as the team were able to deliver a serious topic in an engaging and humorous way.
The Humanities team ran the Night at the Museum on August 17th and as always it was a fabulous night. For the many weeks students had been busy creating displays from any topic that they had studied this year.
Congratulations to the following winners:
First Place – Popular Choice: Tristan Guilleno, Xander Iles, Jitin Kadagala, Will Reeman and Oliver Zilm - their giant Moai head looked amazing!
The Humanities Leader Award was awarded Claire Bohnkem and Tenzin Yangzom for their Aztec Pyramid.
The Year 8 Year Level Leader Award was awarded for an excellent diorama depicting Polar Region created by Sofia Nan Soe Yadanar, Thin Phong Nguyen, Chay Moo and Ibrahim Farah.
A very big thank you to the humanities team.
We will finish of the term with parent student conferences this is a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teachers, we look forward to seeing you there. Have a happy and safe September holiday.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
As Term 3 comes to an end, our Year 9's have continued to show a strong work ethic across all their subjects. As they finished of their Career Action Plans, the cohort moved their attention to a wonderful life skills unit. This unit allowed students to get a glimpse into various aspects of life after school and what some of the ‘life-skills’ needed to flourish in our community.
Our weekly assemblies have continued to be an amazing opportunity to celebrate one another. These assemblies have been conducted by each of our tutor groups, with some awesome games and special singing performances one of the many highlights of our Fridays. We most recently had 9E run an amazing basketball competition, with 9B coming out victorious. As always, we like to recognise our students of the week, so a big congratulations to:
Week 8 – Diya Kumar
Week 9 – Caleb Hill 9G
We look forward to what Term 4 brings for our group, as we embark on their final term in middle school at WCC!
