Community &

Positive Environment

The Term 3 after school program has wrapped up last week. It was great to see the students participate across the term in the Volleyball Club and Cooking Club. I hope that all the students who participated in the program had a great time, stay tuned for the Term 4 program where we hope to get a few more opportunities on the schedule.

This program would not happen without the support of the community organisations who come out and run the programs as well as the staff who support it. Thank you to all involved.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in KPOP lunchtime classes ran by one of our Year 10 Students Payton. Payton put the project together as a part of her enrichment project. Well done Payton on such a great initiative.

I was fortunate to attend Rotary’s Mental Health Forum on Wednesday 9th of August, held at McKillop College. Mental Health is such an important issue in our society and the evening was specifically targeted at 15–18-year-old females. The guest presenters spoke about the specific challenges facing this group and families in attendance were able to start the conversations to address these important issues. This forum will become a yearly project with Rotary to complement the work they do with Beyond Blue and the local Football Clubs.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter we welcome back the “ In Harmony In League” program for our students. This program is run by the support of Melbourne Storm Rugby Club and aims to empower young people to be agents of change within their community. Sessions run for 6 weeks and culminates in a “Gala Day.”

Students thoroughly enjoyed the classroom sessions and of course had even more fun on the Gala Day. Congratulations to all the student involved and in particular to Emily Tali and Tyrese Taula of Year 10, who were nominated for the Ambassador Awards for their leadership in the program.
