Kindergarten

A message from Early Stage 1

What an amazing ‘100 Days of Kindergarten’ celebration we had. Thank you to all families who were able to come and participate in our celebrations and in the Learning Showcase. You can find many photos from the day at the end of this newsletter.

English

We are learning to:

  • hear and say the sounds /s/, /l/, /f/ and /sh/
  • recognise that two letters making one sound are called digraphs:
    • ‘sh’ makes the sound /sh/
    • ‘ll’ makes the sound /l/
    • ‘ff’ makes the sound /f/
    • ‘ss’ makes the sound /s/
  • read tricky words: all, ball, call, tall, little
  • understand that a verb is a word used to describe action words
  • identify verbs in sentences

Mathematics

We are learning to:

  • combine two or more groups of objects to show addition
  • describe and compare the areas of similar 2-Dimensional shapes
  • identify half of a length

Integrated learning

We are learning to:

  • identify the place in which we live
  • describe the features of the place in which we live
  • understand that not all places where people live are the same
  • identify the places we belong to and describe the places we are familiar with

Personal Development and Health (PDH)

We are learning to:

  •  recognise people we can trust and identify who keep us safe
  • identify parts of the body including those which are private

Visual Arts

We are learning about:

  • line and colour, shape (rectangle/square/triangles/trapezium) and texture to make a collage house

Reminders

We are finding that when the weather is cooler a lot of students are eating all their food either on the bus on the way to school or during recess. If this describes your child, please pack them an extra sandwich.

Home readers are to be returned on Friday and a new reader will be sent home on Monday. Reading at home is very important as is practising recognising the ‘tricky words’.
