Message from the Principal

James Penson

Hello and welcome to our newsletter this week. The term is flying by and life at Greenhills continues to be active, engaging and full of learning opportunities. Looking back over the last few weeks we have seen:

  • Maths Games, Olympiad & Explorer
  • Soccer Inter School Sport Division Play Off
  • “Christmas in July” fundraising day organised by our Years 5 & 6 Junior School Council
  • Excursions, incursions and re-unions!

As a school community we can be very proud of the huge variety of extra-curricular experiences our students are provided with and of course the energy and sense of adventure that they participate with and engage with.

WELCOME BACK CLASS OF 2022

On Tuesday our Graduating Class of 2022 returned to our school for their re-union. I know the students really enjoyed catching up with old friends and sharing stories about their journey into high school.

This event is just one small part of our very organised and extensive Transition program. Just like we set up our Experience Greenhills sessions for our future prep students (which start next week!), we also work hard right through all the primary school years and beyond to ensure Greenhills students are connected with their peers, teachers and the school community. Many thanks to Lauren Richardson and the Year 6 staff team for organising the event.

YEAR 5 WRITING SHOWCASE

On Monday morning this week our Year 5’s opened their classroom doors for a special writing showcase. The students have been analysing the book “Bindi” by Kirli Saunders which inspired some outstanding free verse poetry matched with some matching charcoal illustrations. Thank you to all those classes and families who attended, and we look forward to continuing to share more of what our students are doing, saying, making and writing.

IN MATHS CHALLENGE

Don’t forget that we have launched our next Principal’s Maths Challenge. This is the fourth challenge this year and it’s all about some of the maths linked to shopping at the supermarket.

There are three different options to choose from for this challenge and they can all be found on your child’s Seesaw page. There is even a challenge to complete as a family and we have some Coles / Safeway Vouchers on offer for prizes this time around!

MID-TERM THREE MEET WITH THE PRINCIPAL TEAM

Next week we will hold our Mid-Term Meet with the Principal Team on Tuesday 8th August at 7.30pm via Webex. The meetings are held at the mid point of each term with the aim of helping to keep you in the loop with things that are happening across our school. They are also another forum to ask questions, provide feedback and suggestions and continue our strong home school partnership. At this meeting we will share more details about Student Agency, Disability & Inclusion and some forecasting and early planning around our school structure (number of classes) for 2024 and some more news around things to look forward to in 2024. In fact, if what I have heard is correct we may have some very exciting news to share!
