From the Acting Principal

Ms Kylie Virgo

What a busy two weeks we have had at John Wollaston!

From opportunities to recognise student achievements, to the Year 10 Parent Information Evening, Parent/Teacher interviews, the IPSHA Cross Country Carnival, School Production rehearsals, NAIDOC Week activities, Chapels and our annual School Photo days, Term 3 has certainly begun at a fast pace. Thank you to the staff involved in the many activities and events that have taken place in the first two weeks.

It was lovely to be able to speak to many of our students at our Primary and Secondary assemblies during the first week.

In addressing our Primary students and staff, I spoke about how lucky we are to be part of a wonderful community. I encouraged them to continue to reach for their personal best and be the reason why someone has a great day. A highlight of the assembly was recognising and congratulating our Semester 2 Class Representatives and we wish them all well as they embark on their new role.

Addressing our Secondary community at their assembly was an opportunity to speak about our new School Core Value of Inclusion. Using the examples of Rosa Parks and Ellie Cole, I encouraged our students to ensure their actions and words fostered an environment where diversity is respected and celebrated, where everyone's contributions are heard, where we embrace the opportunity to share ideas that create a school where everyone feels valued and included. Recognising the Semester 1 Character Merit recipients, being entertained by the cast of our upcoming Secondary Production, hearing from the Year 10 students who attended the Samoa Immersion and students from our Student Wellbeing Council on the importance of sleep to support our wellbeing, were certainly highlights of our Secondary assembly.

Our school community has many things to look forward to this term. I look forward to seeing our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Commitment and Inclusion front and centre in all we strive to do in making it a great term.
