RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

On Tuesday 18th July two members of our Student Diversity Group headed to Melbourne to present their idea for inclusion to politicians and community leaders. Abbey and April were incredible ambassadors for the school, sharing an idea to develop e-learning modules for all secondary school staff to help create safe and supportive environments at schools for students who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In researching their presentation, the students reflected on the value of the Respectful Relationships initiative and curriculum as important in promoting inclusion for all students.

Our school was also fortunate to be visited by presenters from Dolly’s Dream. Dolly’s Dream is an organisation that challenges young people to become ‘upstanders’ online. An ‘upstander’ is an active bystander; someone who tries to diffuse or fix a potentially unsafe situation rather than someone who stands by and watches. Our Respectful Relationships Curriculum equips students with the skills to become upstanders, including activities to practice problem solving and help-seeking.

During Term 3, many health classes at KSC will be commencing topics on puberty and sexuality education. If you would like more information about these important topics, Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault are running some free webinars on ‘Sex, Consent and Respectful Relationships’ for parents and carers.
