Madeline (C8)
Over the past four years, Maddie has immersed herself in the world of rugby, initially starting with Touch before progressing to 7s. Last year, she took on the role of halfback for the U14s Manly Mermaids XVs team, leading them to a triumphant victory in the U14 state championship.
This year, however, the U14s faced a challenge as they struggled to assemble a complete team. Undeterred, Maddie made the bold decision to play alongside the older U16 girls. Despite not clinching the championship title this time, Maddie's outstanding performance caught the attention of the selectors. She was not only chosen for the prestigious Sydney Red team, but she also secured a spot in the representative Sydney team—an incredible achievement for a 14-year-old.
In an astonishing turn of events, Maddie's talent extended beyond rugby XVs. Earlier this year, she received another remarkable opportunity when she was selected as a representative player for the Sydney Scorpion Touch team. This honour will lead her to compete at the national level in Queensland, immediately following the Mahalia Murphy Shield. It promises to be an unforgettable vacation filled with intense competition and excitement.
Maddie's journey in the world of rugby has been nothing short of remarkable. From her humble beginnings in Touch to conquering XVs and earning representative Honours, she has shown dedication, skill, and versatility. Her upcoming endeavours at the national level and her accomplishments on the field are a testament to her exceptional sporting abilities and determination.
Talea (C10)
Talea's rugby prowess continues to amaze as she achieves one milestone after another. Recently, she was bestowed with the esteemed honour of representing the U16's NSW 7's team in a thrilling series held in Queensland. Her exceptional skills and dedication also earned her a coveted position in the Manly U16's girls Union team, set to compete in the highly anticipated Port Macquarie event.
The brilliance of Talea's performances did not go unnoticed by the selectors, who promptly selected her to join the esteemed 'Sydney red' team. Undeterred by challenges, Talea's remarkable journey reached new heights as she secured a coveted spot in the final U16's Sydney Team for the prestigious Mahalia Murphy Shield—a testament to her unwavering commitment and remarkable abilities.
More recently, Talea's exceptional talent once again garnered recognition as she received a well-deserved invitation to participate in the U16's NSW Invitational 7's team at the illustrious Australian Schools Rugby Championships. Brimming with excitement and anticipation, Talea embarked on a new adventure, setting her sights on New Zealand.
Talea embarked on a journey to the bustling city of Rotorua, her heart set on competing fearlessly in the exhilarating Māori Rugby League Kotiro tournament held on July 14th and 15th. With unyielding spirit, she led her team to victory, earning the prestigious title of "Player of the Tournament". This remarkable achievement propelled Talea's ascent to the NZ Māori National Team, solidifying her place among the nation's finest athletes. Talea's remarkable journey serves as a testament to the boundless heights one can attain through unwavering skill, relentless determination, and an unquenchable passion for the sport.
As Talea continues to excel and make her mark on the rugby scene, she serves as an inspiration to aspiring young athletes everywhere, proving that with hard work and dedication, dreams can indeed become reality.
Brooke (C11)
With immense pride and admiration, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Brooke for her extraordinary achievements in the world of rugby. Her selection into the esteemed NSW Girls 2 Opens Invitational Team is a testament to her exceptional talent and hard work. Adding to her remarkable feat, Brooke's peers recognized her leadership qualities, appointing her as the Captain for the Australian Schools Rugby Championships.
Brooke's exceptional performance throughout the championships left an indelible mark, earning her the prestigious Brian Peace Award. This esteemed accolade holds great significance as it is bestowed upon the Players Player, chosen by the votes of her fellow teammates. This recognition speaks volumes about Brooke's outstanding skills, sportsmanship, and the respect she commands from her peers.
The recognition of Brooke's unwavering dedication and exceptional abilities continued with her selection into the highly coveted Australian School Girls Opens Merit Team. This exceptional accomplishment paves the way for even greater opportunities, as she has been invited to attend a comprehensive two-day selection and development camp in September. During this camp, Brooke will have the invaluable chance to train with the Commonwealth Games Youth Girls and the Australian A Team. This intense camp serves as the platform for the meticulous selection of the Official Australian Schoolgirls team.
This year, Brooke also achieved the remarkable feat of making it into the NSW Touch Football U18 Merit team. Excitingly, she will be teaming up with Talea on the Gold Coast to represent the National Youth League Scorpions team in September. Moreover, their talents have not gone unnoticed, as both of them have received well-deserved recognition by being named in the U20s National Touch League Squad for the March games next year in Coffs Harbour.
Once again, we wholeheartedly congratulate Brooke on her phenomenal achievements thus far, and we offer our sincerest wishes for her continued success on her rugby journey. FOOTBALL
Vanuatu Football Tour
During the July School Holidays Sophia (C10), had an exciting opportunity to join the Avalon Soccer Club's Under 16 girls touring team. This tour marked a significant event as it was the first one since 2019, continuing a long-standing tradition at the club aimed at raising funds for underprivileged communities and promoting women's sports.
Sophia actively participated in two matches against the Vanuatu Under 16 women's national team. In the first match, her team put up a commendable fight but unfortunately lost with a score of 2-1. Undeterred by the defeat, Sophia and her teammates displayed resilience and determination, resulting in a hard-fought draw of 0-0 in the second match.
In addition to the matches, the touring team also dedicated time to making a positive impact in the local community. They visited several schools across Etafe, where they generously donated various items to support the students and the educational environment. These visits aimed to uplift underprivileged communities by providing much-needed assistance and spreading the joy of sports and teamwork.
Sophia's participation in the Avalon Soccer Club's Under 16 girls touring team during the July School Holidays was an enriching experience for her and a testament to the club's commitment to making a difference in society. Through their efforts, they not only showcased their athletic abilities but also contributed to the betterment of the community they visited.
State Cup Finals
We are delighted to share a fantastic achievement with the school community regarding Donnie's (G10) football activities. Donnie and his team, Forest Killarney Football Club U15/1, played in, and won, Sunday's 2023 NSW State Cup Final! This success was hot on the heels of the team spending the week competing in the Keep Up Kanga Cup 2023 in Canberra, which they also won.
Donnie and the team are undefeated in all competitions this season, and with a few games still to play, have also been declared as the Major Premiers, as they cannot be caught on points in the league. With 3 titles secured, they are now focussed on the Minor Premiers title and the Champions of Champions competition to close the season.
The school can take immense pride in Donnie's accomplishments, as he not only shines on the football field but also represents the school with equal enthusiasm and passion. His dedication to both his club and school teams is truly inspiring, motivating more students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship.
We're looking forward to hearing more updates as the season progresses, and we wish Donnie and his team the best of luck in their pursuit of the Minor Premiers title and the Champions of Champions competition!

Congratulations to Lukas (G10), for his outstanding performance at the NSW All Schools 16 Years and Under Hockey Championships at the end of Term 2. We are thrilled to announce that Lukas has been selected to represent the NSW All Schools 16 Years and Under Boys team at the prestigious School Sports Australia Hockey Championships in Adelaide, SA from 12th to 19th August. This achievement is a testament to Lukas's dedication and talent in the sport, and we wish him the best of luck as he competes on the national stage. Go, Lukas!
MOTOR BIKE RACING
Australian Super Bikes Series
The ASBK round in QLD proved to be a challenging weekend for Oscar (G8), Unfortunately, he was involved in a dreadful crash on the grid during race 2, despite bearing no fault of his own. However, despite the setbacks, Oscar displayed immense determination and resilience, ultimately securing a commendable 10th place overall for the entire weekend. Despite the difficulties faced, his performance showcased his true talent and spirit as a racer. Well done Oscar!
NETBALL
NSW Harts Junior State Championships
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the 5 exceptional students who represented Manly Warringah Netball Association at the highly anticipated NSW Harts Junior State Championships held during the July School holidays.
Jocelyne (C7), exhibited remarkable skills in the defence end playing in the U12 Team, securing an impressive 8th place finish in the State. Layla (C7), showcased immense talent down the attack end playing in the U13 Team, culminating in a well-deserved 3rd place finish in the State. Special credit goes to their dedicated coach, Nicole Bosland (TPHS Parent), for guiding them to success. Ruby (C9), demonstrated great prowess playing Goal Attack playing in the U14 Team, contributing to their commendable 5th place finish in the State.
These exceptional girls endured a grueling schedule, engaging in 19 games over three days. Yet, they exhibited incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the entire competition. We acknowledge and applaud their unwavering commitment, teamwork, and the passion they displayed both on and off the court.
We would also like to acknowledge the remarkable achievement of the Manly inaugural U14 Boys Team, coached by Mrs Sue Grigg. Congratulations to Brody (G7), and Jackson (G7), for their outstanding performances. Despite being new to netball, their dedication and eagerness to learn contributed significantly to the team's success, resulting in a remarkable 3rd place finish.
To all the talented individuals mentioned above, your hard work, commitment, and thirst for learning have not gone unnoticed. We commend you for your exceptional achievements and wish you continued success in your netball journeys.
ROAD RACING
Victoria and South Australia Road Racing Championships
We are thrilled to share the exciting news of Oscar (G8) and Connor (P5), who recently returned from their exhilarating participation in the VIC and SA Road Racing Championships held at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia. The event attracted a total of 21 talented competitors from both states.
Despite challenging weather conditions, which made the track extremely tricky, Oscar and Connor showcased their exceptional skills and determination throughout three days of qualifying and racing. Oscar's remarkable performance led him to secure an impressive 2nd place overall, achieving an astonishing top speed of 148km/h. Not to be outdone, Connor showcased his talent as well, finishing in a commendable 3rd place overall with a top speed of 138km/h.
Their outstanding achievements have now earned them the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in September, a remarkable accomplishment.
We congratulate Oscar and Connor on their extraordinary performances and wish them the best of luck as they gear up for the upcoming race at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit. ROCK CLIMBING
Congratulations to Will (G9), Currently, Will is fully immersed in his climbing journey, dedicating himself to rigorous training twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As an enthusiastic member of the climbing club Unco (UmbrellaNine), he is fortunate to have a dedicated coach who is assisting him in preparing for upcoming regional and State competitions.
Last year, Will showcased his skills and determination by securing an impressive 9th place at the NSW State titles. However, this year, he faced the disappointment of the State Titles not taking place.
Nevertheless, his passion for climbing remains unwavering, and he is currently engaged in the exciting Sydney Boulder series. Recently, he demonstrated his prowess, achieving a commendable 7th position during a climbing event at the Sydney indoor climbing gym in St Peters on the weekend. His competitive spirit continues as he gears up for another challenge at the Nomad gym in Annandale, where he will be competing as part of the same series.
Beyond competing, Will goes the extra mile to deepen his understanding of the sport. He volunteers at his local gym, actively participating in route setting, eager to learn the intricacies of designing indoor climbing routes at different grades.
Not limited to gym activities, Will's passion for climbing extends to his own backyard, where he and his family have built a small climbing wall. Most evenings, he can be found there, honing his skills and pushing his boundaries.
Will's dedication, enthusiasm, and love for climbing are evident in every aspect of his life, and we can't wait to see where his climbing journey takes him next. Keep reaching for new heights, Will!
RUGBY
Alastair (P4) Shines in Representative Rugby
We are thrilled to share the remarkable achievements of one of our talented students, Alastair (P4), who has recently made waves in the world of Rugby. Alastair was selected to play in the Warringah Rats U10 Development Squad, showcasing his outstanding skills and dedication to the sport.
Alastair's journey to success was no easy feat. Over the course of three weekends, he faced tough competition in the trials, competing against boys from various clubs that feed into the renowned Rats team. His determination and perseverance paid off, as he secured his spot in the squad.
Being part of a representative squad demands hard work and camaraderie, and Alastair embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. The team bonded and trained rigorously, getting to know each other's strengths and strategies to play at the reps' level.
Alastair's skills were put to the test at the state championships hosted by the Two Blues Rugby club in Parramatta. Over the course of two intense days, his team competed in five challenging games. Their dedication and teamwork paid off as they emerged victorious in four of the matches.
Alastair's versatility and talent were on full display as he played in the crucial scrum half position. His passion for rugby and enjoyment of the higher level of competition were evident. Behind every successful student-athlete is a support system that motivates and encourages them to excel. Alastair's family and friend's unwavering support and encouragement throughout his rugby journey has undoubtedly played a significant role in Alastair's accomplishments.

SNOWSPORTS
Sydney Interschools Snowsports Championships
Amidst the sunshine of Sydney, a group of 20 enthusiastic students and 4 dedicated staff embarked on a memorable trip to Thredbo on Sunday, July 9th. Their mission? To partake in the highly anticipated Sydney Interschools Snowsports Championships. As their journey progressed, the team received an additional boost when 11 more students joined them in Thredbo, amplifying the competitive spirit with a total of 31 participants.
Over the course of the next five days, students ranging from Years 3 to 11 showcased their skills and passion for Snowsports in 22 exhilarating events across four disciplines: Alpine, Ski Cross, Snowboard GS, and Snowboard Cross. Each day, they dedicated an impressive 7 hours on the slopes, engaging in intense competition alongside over 1085 fellow competitors from 85 schools across New South Wales with 2,349 event entries.
The Sydney Interschools Snowsports Championships provided an electrifying platform for these young athletes to demonstrate their abilities, pushing themselves to new heights and leaving an indelible mark on the snowy terrain. Amidst the breathtaking scenery and fierce competition, bonds were forged, personal limits were surpassed, and cherished memories were made.
As the students embraced the challenges and thrills of the championships, they showcased not only their physical prowess but also their determination, teamwork, and resilience. This event served as a celebration of Snowsports, camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence.
We commend the 31 talented students who fearlessly embraced the slopes, representing their school with pride. Their dedication, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment were truly inspiring. As they return from Thredbo, their hearts filled with memories and accomplishments, we celebrate their remarkable journey at the Sydney Interschools Snowsports Championships.
Regrettably, the events scheduled for Day 5 had to be canceled due to strong winds, following the completion of the 9am races. As a result, some of our students were unable to participate. However, there is a possibility that these students may be given the opportunity to progress automatically to the next level, which is the NSW / ACT / QLD State Snowsports Championships, the list of students will be published near the end of July.
We extend our congratulations to the outstanding students who have achieved top 15 rankings, thereby qualifying for the highly anticipated NSW/ACT/QLD State Snowboard Championships. The following individuals have showcased their talent and dedication:

Softball Australia U14 Regionals Tournament
Congratulations to Melanie (C8) on her selection to represent the NSW U14 Metro Slammers team and participate in the Australia U14 Regionals held in Redcliff, QLD. Melanie and her team demonstrated exceptional skills and determination, securing a remarkable 2nd place finish. This achievement is truly commendable! Melanie is also competing in the NSW Softball Academy Games being played on the 13 and 14 July. Under 14 State program, the Academies are an integral part of the pathway for both players, coaches, and other team officials.

Softball NSW Inaugural International Cup
Congratulations to Andie (C10) and Shontelle (C12), for their selection into the NSW Regional 2 Team, which will be representing their state in the NSW Inaugural International Cup. This prestigious tournament, taking place from Monday 10th July to Wednesday 12th July 2023, will bring together teams from NSW, ACT, the United States, and New Zealand, creating a platform to showcase softball talent from diverse nations.
Participating in the International Cup will provide an incredible opportunity for our talented NSW players to compete against athletes from different countries. It promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with camaraderie, growth, and thrilling matches. Above all, we hope that Andie, Shontelle, and the entire NSW team have a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoy the tournament. Best of luck to them!

SURFING
Skullcandy Oz Grom Open Surf Competition
Last week Liam (G7), embarked on a journey to Lennox Head where he participated in the renowned Skullcandy Oz Grom Open Surf Competition. This prestigious annual event exclusively invites Australia's most promising young surfers in the 14, 16, and 18 age divisions. The U14 age group comprised 30 talented competitors.
Distinguishing itself from other junior competitions worldwide, the event boasted a five-person judging panel consisting of esteemed judges from the WSL Championship Tour and Qualifying Series. Additionally, a live webcast further elevated the stature of this competition.
Liam displayed exceptional skill, securing an impressive 2nd place in his initial heat, which propelled him directly to Round 3. Although he narrowly missed out on advancing to the Quarter-finals in Round 3, he was very happy with his overall results. His notable achievements earned him valuable points, leading to an elevation in his NSW Ranking to 21st and a commendable 40th Nationally.
Currently, Liam is diligently preparing for the upcoming State Titles, scheduled to commence on Friday, July 21st, in Maroubra. Good luck Liam!
SURF LIFESAVING
Battle of Tasman
We are thrilled to share the fantastic news that Conner (G12), has been selected to proudly represent Australia in Surf Lifesaving. This remarkable opportunity will take place at the end of August, as Conner joins the Australian team in the highly anticipated Battle of the Tasman competition held in Queensland. The excitement is palpable as Conner prepares to showcase his skills on an international stage.
The Battle of the Tasman competition is an exhilarating new event that brings together Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) and Surf Life Saving Australia. Its purpose is to provide a top-tier international competition, raising the stakes for participants. This thrilling event will witness the Junior (U19) Black Fins team from New Zealand, along with a New Zealand Pathway team, fiercely competing against Australia's finest junior team and pathway team.
Conner's selection for the Australian team is a testament to his exceptional abilities and dedication to surf lifesaving. As he prepares to join forces with his fellow teammates, excitement and anticipation build for this prestigious competition. The Battle of the Tasman presents a unique opportunity for Conner to not only represent his country but also compete at a high international level.

TENNIS
Queensland Wheelchair Opens Championships
Congratulations to Isla (C12) on her outstanding achievements in the world of tennis. Currently, she holds an impressive position in the Junior Singles World Ranking, standing at 14th place. Additionally, she has secured the 162nd position in the Woman's World Tennis Rankings, as recognised by the International Tennis Federation.
Isla's remarkable abilities were on full display during the Queensland Wheelchair Tennis Opens Championships, which took place from June 26th to 28th. Despite a challenging match in the women's singles against Yuma T, a formidable competitor from Japan who currently holds the 5th position in the Junior World rankings and an impressive 48th position in the Women's World rankings. Isla, unfortunately, lost with a score of 0-6, 0-6. It is worth mentioning that Yuma ultimately emerged as the champion of the Women's Singles Championships. Isla went on to play women's doubles with her partner Naomi O. They lost in a tight match to Yuma and Hayley 6-3 6-2 with Yuma and Hayley taking out the women's doubles comp. Ending the Championship on a high, Isla won the junior doubles with her partner Josh B from QLD.
Isla's dedication and talent have placed her among the elite in the world of tennis, and her participation in prestigious events like the Queensland Wheelchair Tennis Opens Championships is a testament to her passion and commitment to the sport. We applaud Isla for her achievements thus far and eagerly anticipate her continued success in the future.
Metro Sydney Junior Tennis Championships
We are thrilled to extend our warmest congratulations to Aiden (G8), for his remarkable achievements at the 2023 J125 Metro Sydney Junior Tennis Championships, held at Sydney Olympic Park from the 4th to 7th of July. Aiden's dedication and perseverance were truly commendable.
Throughout three intense days of competition, Aiden exhibited unwavering focus and determination on the court, participating in grueling matches from 8am to 5pm. His hard work and exceptional skills paid off as he showcased remarkable consistency and resilience, not dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
We are delighted to announce that Aiden emerged victorious, clinching the well-deserved title of U14 Boys Singles Champion. This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to his talent, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
Congratulations once again to Aiden for his extraordinary success at the 2023 J125 Metro Sydney Junior Tennis Championships. We applaud his hard work, skill, and dedication, and we wish him continued success in his tennis journey.
International Tennis Competitions
Amy's (C8) tennis journey has been nothing short of remarkable, as she conquered several matches, including an epic four-hour battle against the top-seeded player. Though she narrowly lost in a tiebreak, her exceptional performance earned her an International Tennis ranking and a World Tennis Number, which is undeniably thrilling.
Exciting opportunities await Amy in the upcoming months, but it also means her absence for a significant part of this term, from August 13th to October 12th. During this time, she will be participating in various competitions and training experiences that will further enrich her skills and expertise.
First on her agenda is the Tennis Europe Junior Event in Koblenz, Germany, followed by the ITF International Tennis Junior Tour event in Merzig, Germany. These international events will undoubtedly provide valuable exposure and experience on the global stage.
Next, Amy will be embarking on an extraordinary journey at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy in Mallorca, Spain, where she will spend two weeks honing her craft under expert guidance.
But her travels won't end there. Amy has additional visits planned to esteemed tennis academies in Barcelona and Valencia, Spain, where she will undoubtedly gain invaluable insights and training from top coaches and players.
Lastly, the United States beckons as Amy sets her sights on the USA Tennis Academies, including the renowned Chris Evert Academy in Miami and the prestigious USTA in Orlando. These opportunities will offer her a taste of the American tennis scene and further enhance her skills through rigorous training.
With such an action-packed itinerary and an unwavering passion for tennis, Amy's future in the sport looks incredibly promising. We wish her the best of luck and success in all her endeavours, confident that she will continue to shine brightly on the tennis court. Go, Amy!
