Indonesian

Hai semua (Hi everyone)!

We have had a very productive start to Term 3. After beginning the term with a celebration of NAIDOC week, our attention has turned to our Indonesian units of exploration for Term 3.

Our Foundation students are learning how to correctly greet different people at specific times of day. They will be learning new songs and games in the coming weeks, with a focus on numbers, and terms of address such as Ibu (Miss/Mrs) and Pak (Mr).

Our Grades 1 and 2 students are focusing on Indonesian verbs (action words) and grammar. The students have already learnt several new words, such as berjalan (walking), berlari (running), berdiri (standing), and berhenti (stopping). We have begun to look for language patterns, including the ber- prefix, which indicates action.

In Grades 3 and 4, our students have started learning vocabulary related to their houses. We will be focusing on words for objects around the house, such as meja (table), kursi (chair) and jendela (window). The students have also started to learn question words (who, what , when, where, how) to make their writing more interesting.

Students in Grades 5 and 6 have started a unit on animals of the Indonesian rainforest. We will be learning more about natural habitats and how to describe characteristics of different Indonesian animals, using target language.
