BOOK WEEK 2023 - Read, Grow, Inspire

Each year across Australia, The Children’s Book Council brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. This provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australian Children’s Literature.

This year Book Week will be celebrated a week early due to the Year 6 Sydney excursion in Week 6. We will celebrate from the 14th - 18th August (Week 5, Term 3), the theme being “Read, Grow, Inspire”.

St Xavier’s students will spend time during the week participating in various classroom activities focused on this theme.

Our celebrations will begin with a dress up day on Monday 14th August (Week 5). Students may choose to dress up as their favourite book character and stay dressed in their costumes all day if they are comfortable. Please note that the costume does not need to be too elaborate!

You are most welcome to join us for a Book Week Parade in the hall at 12:30 pm followed by a picnic lunch. At the end of lunch, students will return to class as normal.

St Xavier’s Book Swap!

This year the Library will be hosting the first St Xavier’s Book Swap! Students can bring a book to school they’d like to swap for another donated book. Please make sure the book is age appropriate, in great condition and one that your child is happy to give away (they won’t get it back!!). If your child is interested in participating in the Book Swap, please return the permission slip with the book to the library by Monday Week 4. We will organise the books and host the swap during Book Week.

Read To Be Ready

Read To Be Ready has begun! Some of our 2024 Kindergarten students have already borrowed their first Read To Be Ready bag. If you have a child starting Kindergarten at St Xavier’s next year you’re most welcome to drop by the office, library or arrange for an older sibling to borrow one to bring home. Elodie, Kalani and Alex have enjoyed delivering bags to their younger siblings!

Breaks in the Library

Many of our students have been visiting the library during their breaks to check out our new tree! It’s certainly been a hit!
