Athletics Carnival

It was a freezing day for our athletics carnival last term, but that did not deter our students from participating and competing in all the events throughout the day.

We could not have survived the day without our awesome parent helpers. A special shout out to the Gunnedah Athletics Center parents who did a lot of work behind the scenes as well.

Thanks also to Andrew Frend who was our official starter for the entire day.

Diocesan Athletics

We have a team of 46 athletes who have qualified to attend the Diocesan Athletics Carnival on Friday 18th August in Tamworth.

NSWPSSA Cross Country

Last Friday, Josh Spinks travelled down to Eastern Creek to compete at the NSWPSSA Cross Country Championships. He ran a great race, coming in 30th in his age group. This is a huge achievement, considering the fastest cross county runners from NSW were in attendance.

NSWCPS Rugby

Congratulations to Gus Simpson and Nash Groth who were selected into the Polding Rugby Team to compete at the NSWPSSA Rugby Carnival at Camden in August.

Coalminers Cup

On Tuesday 25th July St Xavier's sent five teams to participate in the Annual Coal Miners Cup.

Both of our Year 5/6 Teams managed to make it to the grand final and played each other for the shield. It is the first time since 2009 that St Xavier's have won, which is very exciting!

Our Year 5/6 Girls League Tag Team played hard all day and won two of their games. The two Year 3/4 Tackle Teams also did very well, with one of the teams undefeated on the day.

All of the students had a great day and represented the school with pride, they were also very excited to receive a bag of goodies at the end of the day.

A huge thanks to all the parents who came and supported the teams and especially to the parents who volunteered to manage/coach on the day.

AFL

As a result of the local Paul Kelly Cup here in Gunnedah last term, we have been invited to send a team to the Regional Final to be held in Coffs Harbour tomorrow, Friday 28th July.  We believe that it is a great opportunity for our students to play in a higher level competition. The winner of the regional final will play in the State Final in Sydney at Giants Stadium on Tuesday 29th August.

Thanks to Khobi Devine (AFL Northwest) , Fiona Knapman and Jess Stevenson for all the work you have done to make this happen.
