Hume Region Junior Girls Badminton – Year 8s Make It To State Again

We are proud to announce that another Interschool Sport team on their way to Melbourne for the State Finals, after the Year 8 Girls Badminton team eclipsed rivals from FCJ Benalla, Notre Dame Shepparton and Yarrawonga P-12 College to win the Hume Region tournament at the Shepparton Sports Centre on Tuesday 15th August.

Comprising of the same 6 girls that made it to State last year as Year 7s -- Milly O’Kane, Lillian Hooper, Isabelle Christison, Casey Sheppard, Angela Keenan and Alanna Hepburn -- the girls were never really threatened (albeit slightly more than when blitzing the Upper Hume tournament), taking home another coveted blue and yellow pennant.

The girls now look forward to another trip to Melbourne on Friday 8th September, where they expect to again face some of the crack Sport Colleges from the city, home to the best of the best players in Victoria. Our proud school community wishes them luck.

They were on the day accompanied by our Year 7 girls team, who after finishing 2nd at the Upper Hume stage in Wodonga, gained a special invite due to a school from Broadford pulling out. The Year 7s jumped at the chance play in Shepparton, and were so good that they would have finished 2nd had they won their final doubles match.

We thank all 11 girls for being great ambassadors for our school on the day. You may notice these names are the fulcrum of most of our girls teams in many sports, which is a credit to their talent and commitment to the school’s loved Interschool Sport program. We are lucky to have them.

Special thanks to go to staff members Alannah Baguley and Kaye O’Kane for taking the girls. For Kaye, a day to treasure with her two daughters.
