Year 3 - Year 5

Assistant Principal's Report

Year 3 - Year 5 News

On Friday 2nd of August, it was Principal Day and the teachers and students of Years 3-5 really made me feel special.  I would like to use this space to officially thank everyone for making a fuss and spoiling me on this day.  The Year 3 teachers and students wrote a song to the tune 'Lion King' which they performed as a whole cohort.   It was such a lovely and thoughtful surprise that will be remembered for a very long time.   With so much thought and consideration taken,  I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Year 3!

Year 4 teachers and students collaborated to create a 'Tree of Life' that I will keep forever.   Every Year 4 student's name has been included and student's and teacher's fingerprints have been used to form the leaves and grass.  It is just beautiful.  THANK YOU!

Year 5 teachers and students spoilt me with a lovely card and thoughtful words that now is proudly displayed on my display board.  THANK YOU!

As you can imagine, I went home feeling very cared for and appreciated, which still has me smiling today.

Where everybody found the time for these celebrations, still has me wondering because the fortnight has also been busy with new learning and discovery.

Multiplication across all year levels is a real focus and it has been great to see the progression of learning as I rove through all the classrooms.   Students need to have exposure to a range of strategies in order to master the recall of multiplication facts.   Students who learn to recall multiplication facts find division much simpler to learn, as they are able to make the connection between the two operations.   Students in Years 3-5 learn strategies that include:

4 x 6 is the same as 6+6+6+6 or 4 groups of 6 or 4 rows of 6

Any opportunity to revise and practise the multiplication facts will really benefit your child's numeracy learning, now and in the future.

With some rainy weather forecasted, it may just be the perfect weather to grab your favourite book, keep warm and enjoy a good read.

I hope everyone has a great fortnight ahead.

Kind Regards

Jane King
