Year 7 Badminton EMR
Brentwood represented the Monash Division at EMR in both the year 7 girls and boys competitions. Both teams had been training in the lead up to the day.
The year 7 boys team were in a very strong pool and played exceptionally well throughout the day. The Brentwood year 7 boys team were defeated by Balwyn 2-4, and they won against Ringwood 6-0 and East Doncaster 4-2. The pool ended up in a 3 way tie and Brentwood ended up placing second in their pool and that qualified the team to play in the cross over semifinals. The boys were facing the winner of pool 2, Glen Waverley, and although they played very close matches they lost 2-4.
Boys team – Ethan Ea, Tng Hin Ng, Hwani Shin, Jared Loo & Pahul Gabbi.
Thank you to the student coaches Davin Cheng, Simon Lynn and Jordan Oomkaeo for their leadership and coaching of the team.
The year 7 girls team had the same draw and showed great sportsmanship throughout the competition. The Brentwood year 7 girls team won against Ringwood 4-2, however they were defeated by Balwyn 0-6 and East Doncaster 0-6. This placed them 3rd in their pool and unfortunately they did not qualify for the cross over semis.
Girls team – Clara Zhu, Dilfot Gahir, Michelle Van, Emily Goh & Wei Xin Wong.
Thank you to Ms Warner for leading the team and the student coaches, Ingrid Ung, Pretisha Ganesh and Hayoung Nho, who trained the girls.
Well done to both teams on representing Brentwood with determination and good sportsmanship.

Intermediate Boys Table Tennis
The level of interest to represent Brentwood in table tennis is really high. There are a large number of students who attended selection trials to make the team made the selection quite competitive. The intermediate teams competed last Thursday at the Monash Division competition and we sent two teams of five.
A team: Brysen Famularo, Dylan Li, Tejas Srinivas, James Karabatsos & Ethan Wright. This team defeated South Oakleigh 6-0, John Monash 6-0, Wellington 6-0 and Wheelers Hills 6-0.
B team: Rohan Ramji, Jordan Oomkaeo, Aaron Bowers, Nathan Tran & Davin Cheng. This team also defeated South Oakleigh 6-0, John Monash 6-0, Wellington 6-0 and Wheelers Hills 6-0.
Brentwood clearly dominated the Monash Division competition and I look forward to seeing what the boys can achieve at EMR on October 30. Best of luck.

Intermediate Girls Netball
On August 9th the intermediate girls netball team competed against teams who had all won their divisions in the Eastern Metropolitan Region for a chance to play in the state tournament. The girls played three pool games for the chance to make it to the crossover semi-final stages and then hopefully progressing for the chance to play in the final.
Their first game was against Canterbury Girls Secondary College, the game was neck and neck for most of the duration and the girls did well to capitalise on mistakes made by Canterbury. They were able to pull away with a 19-13 win, which was a great way to start the day off. The second game against Ringwood was not so successful with Ringwood running away with the lead early on in the game and Brentwood unable to keep up with the pace of the game. The girls lost 25-10 with their third and final game being crucial to be able to make it to the cross over semi-finals. Their final pool game was against Blackburn High School. The game went shot for shot, with both teams being unable to pull away from the other. Brentwood managed to score at crucial times and were able to win 19-18. The girls finished off the pool stages with 2 wins and 1 loss.
Due to other results the team finished equal first on the overall points ladder, however due to Ringwood also finishing equal first and Brentwood losing that head to head the girls came in second on the pool ladder. This meant playing in the cross over semi final against the first ranked team of the other pool. This was Rowville Secondary College, a specialised sports school. The girls were unfortunately outmatched by the talent and sharp shooters at Rowville and eventually went down 37 -7.
The girls played outstanding the whole day and should be very proud having made it to the semi-finals at the EMR round considering the level of competition at the event. They showed great sportsmanship and persisted all day against tough opposition. Congratulations on your efforts!
