Year 10 Reflection Days on Servant Leadership
We have celebrated this week Year 10 Reflection days with a theme of servant leadership.
The reflection day started with prayer and then our Principal, Mr Black took students through what is leadership and particularly what is this thing called servant leadership.
Students were then privilege to have a guest speaker in Emma Rice from Rosie’s Youth Ministry and David Edwards, Head of Vinnies for the Casey region. All presenters told many wonderful stories about leadership and what are the key attributes for leadership and to be successful in life.
Many other activities filled the day, concluding with a liturgy.
An aim of the day was for Year Ten students to learn about the legacy of St Peter. With an in depth analysis of who he was, what he stood for and what we take from the life and message of St Peter into a living charism for students in their present moment. It had an emphasis on the leadership model lived by St Peter. In particular servant leadership. Students came away understanding the core elements of servant leadership and how they can put into practice the skills and themes of this model of leadership into their current living and into the future.
I thank all staff and students who supported the day.
What does love look like? A Winter Sleepout?
Coming up is the feast day of St Augustine, whom our Augustine House is named after. Augustine House at both campuses will celebrate their day with a Mass.
Augustine in his writings threw around the question, what does love look like? What do we at St. Peter’s College think love looks like?
From 6.00 pm on Friday night (August 23), close to 140 of our students and staff will participate in the annual Vinnies Winter Sleep out till 8.00 am Saturday morning. Much of the night has been organised by students for students, with a want to put their learning about social justice into action. To learn by doing. To create a concrete example of putting their love for one another, into a real context. They will all sleep rough and keep entertainment to a bare minimum. A powerful part of the night will be the hearing from invited guests, from organisations such as St Vincent de Paul.
A key aim of our education at St. Peter’s College is to make a difference in the lives of individuals and in the wider community. By challenging our young people, through God, to find meaning and value in their lives and to reach their full potential as compassionate, life-giving members of society who are informed, tolerant, open and just.
A Winter Sleepout increases an awareness within our students who attend, of their communal obligations and further develops values which unite society, infused by a commitment to social justice.
What did St Augustine say that love looks like?
It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.
That is what love looks like.
