Year 10 Central Australia Trip

During the last week of Term 2, 115 excited Year 10’s embarked on a journey to the Red Centre accompanied by 13 staff. Departing Ringwood Secondary College at 5am on Saturday morning, we headed to the airport for an 11 day trip that took students on a journey from Uluru all the way to Darwin. Students experienced the diverse landscapes that the Northern Territory has to offer, and visited several National Parks, museums and scenic lookouts along the way.

The following are accounts from students of their experiences on the camp:

Central was a once in a lifetime experience for me. I really enjoyed the amazing variety of landscapes we had the pleasure of visiting, including: King’s Canyon, Uluru and Kakadu National Park. Having the opportunity to go a scenic flight above Kakadu was also a highlight, getting to see the amazing wetlands and cliff faces. The three river cruises we went on to see morning wildlife, Katherine Gorge and jumping crocodiles were eye opening. The 11-day trip gave me the chance to meet many new friends and I hope I have the chance to visit Central Australia in the future.

Rocks, rocks and more rocks. These were the main highlight of Central. While there was a bit of similarity with the views, they certainly didn’t detract from the overall trip. We started our journey with a quick walk around the Kata-Tjutas, before confronting the enormity of Uluru. We ended our time in Alice Springs with a walk around the truly majestic Kings Canyon, as well as a bit of sightseeing of some interesting local rocks. We then bused up to Kakadu, where there are mountains of rock literally everywhere, and we climbed some of these to get a really good view of the other rocks. We had a swim in Litchfield NP, where we could jump off some of the bigger rocks, before finally flying home from Darwin.

Throughout the Central Australia camp we went on many beautiful walks and took in lots of amazing views. Swimming in the waterholes at Litchfield National Park and Mataranka were some of the main highlights for me. A group of us also got to experience the Purple House where we learnt how to make bush medicine. The trip taught us a lot about Aboriginal culture and history. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go on this camp and make heaps of amazing memories.

The trip was a great success and I would like to thank all the Year 10 students who were apart of the trip for their enthusiasm and exceptional behaviour during the trip. Several members of the public have mentioned how well our students behaved, considering how many students we had on the camp. I would also like to say a huge thankyou to the support of the staff members who attended the camp and gave up their time to be a part of this great experience.

Middle School Awards

The Middle School Awards afternoon was held on Wednesday 25th of July.  It was a celebration of the efforts, hard work and accomplishments of students throughout first Semester.

It was very pleasing to see many students qualify to receive these awards, and we encourage this level of commitment towards their studies for the remainder of 2018.

We appreciate all the efforts from staff, students and parents who were there to support the students, not only on the day, but for their ongoing support all throughout Semester One.
