Introducing Sustainability at Buninyong Primary School

2020 sees an exciting addition to the many wonderful things happening at Buninyong Primary School.  This year we will be starting a sustainability committee to map our way forward in making our school more environmentally friendly and educating our community on ways we can look after our planet.

  •
    •
      • Biodiversity: Habitats and Homes
      • Energy: Super Smart Power
      • Fair Go: Global Citizens for Social Justice
      • Lifestyles: Healthy and Active
      • Litter and Waste: The Lifecycle of Stuff
      • Waste and Waterways: Developing our Next Generation of Waterway Keepers
      • Water: Think, Drink, Save the Sink

In the coming weeks, we will be pleased to introduce our two Grade 6 Sustainability leaders as well as Joy Hoey, Michelle Probert, Liz Morgan, Ana Anderson, Dave Young and myself as the teaching members.

The team will be looking at seven areas within our school and seeking to make positive contributions in all areas.  Our plan will be to focus on one area at a time, prioritised by the results from our Eco Baseline Survey. The areas you will be seeing in focus in coming terms include:

We are seeking other like minded individuals, both students and adult community members, who would be interested in being part of the sustainability team.  With many exciting things on the horizon, it would be great to have motivated hands on deck. If you are interested, please feel free to get in touch (morris.claire.l@edumail.vic.gov.au).

Whilst we get busy conducting our Eco Baseline Survey, this term and next will see us focus on Litter and Waste.  Whilst the specifics of what BPS are currently doing in regards to litter and waste are being worked out, an obvious start for us will be to separate our recyclables from general waste and deliver them to the correct waste/recycling facilities.  To do this WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

COMPETITION TIME!!!!

Design a Bin

We are looking for some budding designers (adults and children alike) to get busy and come up with some great ideas on how we might be able to store our waste both in the yard and in the classroom.  Further details can be found on the Design A Bin Competition Form. Here is your chance to leave your positive mark on the school! The winning design will be created, presented at assembly and will display a plaque with the winner’s name.
