Year 10 EFC and VET Sport and Rec Excursion
On Wednesday, 10 October, all students from the Year 10 EFC and VET Sport & Rec class were invited to Casey Indoor Stadium to be involved in the pilot program of the new “Wheeltalk” wheelchair sports program, developed by Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR).
The students took part in a presentation of the program with local members of the community, Casey shire and representatives of DSR before having the opportunity to test our the brand new wheelchairs that had been purchased for the program, with the assistance of Hawthorn FC Victorian Wheelchair Football league captain, Peter Ogunyemi. This was a fantastic opportunity for all of the students and thoroughly enjoyed by all as they discovered first-hand how easy the wheelchair athletes make their sport look, when in fact it is far from easy. We look forward to continuing to build on the relationship with the Casey Wheeltalk program
Health & PE Week
Last week, the students and staff were involved in Health & PE week. This was a huge success with a variety of different activities being undertaken over the week to promote health and physical activity – including Proactivity boxing Sessions for the Year 7 and 8 students, smoothie bikes at lunchtime (where students were required to peddle on the bike in order for their smoothie to be blended ready to be tasted), healthy staff breakfast, yogurt cups, table tennis and soccer lunchtime games and the infamous Staff vs Year 12 students Netball match; in which the staff regained the title with a final score of 7-5. All activities involved a large number of people participating and enjoying the opportunity to be healthy and active. Thank you to all the students and staff who were involved.
Sporting Schools Term 4 - Rugby
The Health and PE Team are very excited to announce the East Campus have been awarded another Sporting Schools Grant for Term 4. This grant is designed to help schools to increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities. Research shows that an early connection to sport can positively influence participation and encourage a lifelong love of sport.
This term we will be running a junior girls Rugby Program. Students don’t need to be playing Rugby outside of school, or know how to play Rugby, they simply need a desire to want to have fun, learn a new sport and increase your physical activity. There are five sessions offered for girls only across Term 2;
- Tuesday, 8 November (Week 5) - Lunchtime
- Tuesday, 13 November (Week 6) - Period 1
- Friday, 16 November (Week 6) – Lunchtime
- Monday, 19 November (Week 7) – Lunchtime
- Wednesday, 21 November (Week 7) – Period 2
All sessions will be run by accredited Rugby League coaches and take place on our oval at East campus. It is preferred students commit to as many sessions as possible over the term, but if all sessions cannot be attended, this can be negotiated with the supervising teachers.
If this interests your child please encourage them to sign up on the board next to S.I.S in Coffey. All students will need to complete the permission form on Care Monkey. Expressions of interest close Wednesday, 31 October.
