Farewell to our Year 12's
I am always amazed at just how busy we are each week, but busy in a good way because of the variety of activities associated with both learning and extra-curricular activities. This week was made even more special with the success of SIS Book in a Day, the staff vs student netball match and the much anticipated Year 12 Graduation Assembly, Mass and Valedictory Dinner.
There are a number of wonderful traditions that have been established at St. Peter’s College to recognise and celebrate each year the graduating class. A tree is always planted in the avenue along with a plaque to forever signify the importance and legacy of the graduating class. It was a very special moment when this year’s plaque unveiled as it created a sense of reality that the class of 2018 was officially finishing their time at secondary school. The plaque and tree serve as a reminder to all students past and present of their value to our community as they become the leaders of tomorrow.
Morning tea in the staff room, is another wonderful tradition that is being firmly established at the Clyde North Campus. The culinary delights that the Year 12 students provided staff were very much enjoyed and appreciated. The speeches from our College Captains, Eddie and Natalia proved still further how far they come in their leadership formation. As they spoke on behalf of the Year 12 student body, there was laughter, joy and even a tear or two. The morning tea represents the true nature of a collective community that stands to support one another in bringing out the best in each individual. It also represents an enormous public thank you to the staff who have supported and guided the Year 12’s throughout their entire six years of secondary school.
Last practice:
The final singing practice of ‘Be not afraid’ was a great representation of the class of 2018 cheeky character as a fun loving, caring and considerate collective group of young adults. They certainly did Mr Wallwork and Mr Barber proud at the Graduation Assembly with their performance.
Graduation Assembly
The Graduation Assemble was a wonderful celebration for all students, parents and teachers. The class of 2018 have much to be thankful for and the rightfully displayed their gratitude throughout this assembly. I would like to make special mention of Mr Wallwork, Mr Barber, Mr Pulley, Mr Phillips, Ms McRae, Ms Lowe and Mr Bonnici who worked tirelessly to ensure that the assembly was perfect. I would also like to thank most sincerely all of the parents and friends that attended the assembly, it was a wonderful demonstration of your support for the teachers and the College. The presence of parents at school events, should never be underestimated. We value your presence, your input and your support. I would like all parents to always feel welcome to attend our campus assemblies and events.
The Graduation Mass and Valedictory Dinner were incredibly inspiring events full of positivity, energy and spiritual and personal reflection. To the class of 2018, we thank you.
Other wonderful events this week:
- Book in the Day: Congratulations to the SIS Book in a Day team for a fantastic win in this competition. The St. Peter’s College Clyde North team took out the grand prize for their wonderful novel "Some Secrets Never Die." They were gifted a $700 voucher to use on books for the Discovery Centre. A huge thank you to Ms Van Rens for leading the team.
- Staff vs student Netball match: A hotly contested battle between the staff and mostly Year 12’s students. I have it on good authority that students may have let the staff win!
Reminders:
- Parents and guardians are asked to ensure that any communication you need to have with your son/daughter whilst they are at school, is done via the school office. It is very difficult for us to process and facilitate students going home due to illness or appointments if parents have only communicated to the child via a text message. We would also request that parent/guardians do not drop items off to students from the gates or fence line of the school, as this can present a child safety issue. We are only too happy to support your need to communicate with your son/daughter via the office.
- 2020 year 7 Information evening at the East Campus is on Tuesday 30 October.
- Monday 5 November is a student free day, and Tuesday 6 November is Melbourne Cup holiday.
- Year 9 Camp is fast approaching – November 13 – November 16, please complete the caremonkey form as soon as possible.
I wish you all a safe and productive week.
