CLONTARF Corner

Clontarf Corner

Last week one of our training mornings was at one of the local beaches in the area.  We had a great morning of bullrush, body weights exercise and couple of life saving activities that were run by a couple of our senior Clontarf members.  It was great to see the young men stepping up and take on small duties for some of the mornings.  To finish the training morning we spent 30 minutes walking around the beach to pick up any rubbish.  The lads were able to fill a couple of rubbish bags full of litter.  They all felt great and were more than happy to do their little bit to look after the country.  Something we will now try to do on a regular basis.

MORUYA CRICKET CARNIVAL:

Some of the Boys made it down to Moruya to compete in a cricket carnival. We played against the home side and Kanahooka. The Lizards managed to win both games with outstanding efforts in both batting and fielding.

The boys also had dinner at the local club and took to the water with both surfing and kayaking and fishing. Kayaking and surfing proved to be a great hit with the boys and we all look forward to getting back down there when the chance next comes around.

TOP BUNCH LUNCH:

The last couple of weeks we have celebrated a few milestones within the academy.

Every Friday Clontarf staff cook up a healthy meal for the young men to enjoy.  The only catch is, to gain entry into the Clontarf room to enjoy the lunch they must have reached certain targets.

Each week we have had more than 30 students for lunch every time.  Over the last three weeks the below targets have been reached by the majority of the Clontarf lads:

  • Bring a teacher to lunch
  • Students that have achieved above 80% attendance at school for the Term
  • Students that have achieved 100% attendance for the Week

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMAN'S DAY

On Tuesday morning we set the challenge for our young Clontarf members to find a female staff member and thank them for their help, they also gave them a flower as a token of their appreciation.  The lads then also invited them to come along to a morning tea at the Clontarf room.

The female staff are great role models and have great expectations and care for the young men of Lake Illawarra High.  We thank you all for your repeated effort and care.  The ladies enjoyed the Clontarf room and the company from the young lads.

The last couple of weeks we have seen a few of the activities listed below:

  • Clontarf training mornings
  • Clontarf cricket carnival in Moruya
  • Top bunch lunch for students above 85% attendance at school for the term to date
  • Afternoon activities cooking, fishing, ping pong, nerf wars
