Principal's Message

Due to an increase in the number of enrolments we have had this year in year 7 we have decided to increase the number of core classes that we have in year 7 from four to five.

This will mean that over the holidays we will need to re-do our school timetable ready for the start of term 2. While this is not ideal it does allow us to cater for the extra students that have enrolled this year and will ensure that our classes in year 7 continue to thrive.

This time of the year also sees a surge in the number of extra -curricular opportunities that our students can participate in, whether they be on the sporting field, in academia or leadership pursuits or perhaps through cultural activities. It is important that our students get involved in as many activities that interest them as possible, as this is what makes school enjoyable.

A huge congratulations to our SRC representatives who were elected to their positions last week. This is a great honour and I am sure that you will each do your very best to ensure that the Lake Illawarra High student body is well represented.

Also welcome to the Coonamble Clontarf Academy boys who are spending 3 days with us this week!

Warm regards

Mr Anthony Hicks

With the term now half completed, I still can’t believe how fast it has flown by. We have so many different things that are happening here at Lake, from Debating teams to Sport teams, Zone Carnivals and Expo nights, all of which are organised by staff here at school so that our kids have the greatest opportunity that we can provide. In saying this, I would like to acknowledge all the hard work of both the staff and students, who are eagerly working to set us on the right path for a successful year.

Recently, we held our annual Expo Night which is an event to showcase the great things happening at Lake to our prospective 2021 Year 7 students. This was a successful night where each of the faculties either ran displays or demonstration lessons to be either observed by or participated in by our community. Our SRC team ran the tour groups and over 100 staff and students stayed for the evening to show our community a taste of high school life. I would like to thank the team (staff and students) for the efforts and in particular Mr Chaseling our Transition Advisor for his organisation. I would also like to congratulate Mr Shannon who was successful in his application and has been selected as our 2021 Year 7 Student Advisor. We wish Mr Shannon the best of luck.

Following on from our expo night, we held our annual Year 7 Family BBQ. This event was an opportunity for the new families of Year 7 to meet the teachers of their kids and likewise for our teachers to meet the families of their students. It was great to see the staff, students and their families having a chat about how the kids have settled in these last few weeks and what’s happening in the classroom.

I would like to congratulate all of our students who were recently elected into our SRC. The team of students will now undertake the responsibility to be the voice for their peer’s and I know that they will all do a fantastic job. There is more on this in the SRC report, so I wold like to thank Ms Nicholson and Ms Robinson or their organisation and leadership of the SRC. Well done!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel the school swimming carnival due the recent heavy rains, however, although the carnival was cancelled, it still had to be organised, as well as organising a school swim team to compete at the Zone carnival. A big thankyou to Ms Hartas for her organisation, it was a shame the carnival did not go ahead, as they are always funs events.

As always, if you have any questions about what is happening here at Lake, please feel free to contact myself or Mr Meizer.
