Grade 2/3

A message from Cass:

Dear 2/3 Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce I will be leaving Newlands Primary School.

I have been fortunate enough to be part of the Newlands community for 6 years. I have seen the school transform right before my eyes, something I am so proud to have been part of.  The school community has been a significant part of my life. The connections I have established with students, families and teachers are ones I will never forget. From the day I walked through the doors I knew the community feel was something warming and special. I have seen many come and go over the years and now it is my turn. I will be off to begin a new teaching chapter, with my last day being next Friday 28th May

I wish to thank all the 2/3 families for the privilege in working with your children and spending the last few years with them. I feel so lucky to have played such a significant role in their learning and preparation for life beyond NPS.

As sad as I am to be leaving you all, I have full trust that you will be left in the best possible hands.

I wish you all the best of luck. Adios amigos!

A polar bear for a day

Did you know that polar bears have a thick layer body fat, which keeps them warm while swimming, and a double-layered coat that insulates them from the cold Arctic air?

Well Jose was his usual adventurous self last week and the 2/3s got a taste of what it would be like to be a polar bear in a little science experiment involving... you guessed it, fat! With a glove and a protective layer of fat, the kids couldn't feel the freezing cold water in the bucket.

Check out the photos for some stellar reactions.

Ask your child for a fact about polar bears.

Animal habitats

The 2/3s are learning about animals and their habitats all in the lead-up to their Term 2 projects- making animal habitats! Here they are identifying animals and their habitats in Spanish.

We ask that they bring in any spare shoe boxes or small boxes from next week.

The Creek

This week, the 2/3s explored a different section of the parklands.

Library

We were all happy to curl up with a good book this week.

Maude and Ali

Shout out to these two who are kicking goals. Maude started writing a story in her free time, and Ali completed an entire dialogue in Spanish.
