Year 8 are investigating multicellular organisms and have been looking closely at plant cells. Students have identified the similarities and differences between plant and animal cells, as well as the structure and function of each type of organelle.

Here, Year 8 Science students are searching for plant organelles by viewing onion skin and banana fibres under a light microscope.

Year 10 has been learning about Evolution and Natural Selection. Here, Year 10 are modelling Natural Selection using lollies and a variety of beak shapes from household objects. Students used a range of items such as skewers, tongs, alligator clips and more to use as different beak types for Darwin’s Finches. Students in groups had to compete against the clock to pick up as many lollies using a specific beak type as they could and repeat the experiment using different beaks and lolly types. Students then used their data to make inferences about what beak is best suited to each lolly shape and size, they could then infer what variations of Darwin’s Finch would filter out during speciation.
