Principal’s Message

Mr Nick Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week I had the opportunity to visit the three Tamworth Catholic Primary Schools as a part of the Term 2 Principal's Meeting. While it was fantastic to see these schools in operation, it was also very affirming for our own practices in Literacy and Numeracy at Sacred Heart. A focus on collaborative practices across the diocese is already established for our students, largely in place due to our unique circumstances in class structures. However, we are always looking to improve our practices and structures and the opportunity to visit other schools in action has provided some great food for thought as we move forward.

We have once again been invited to participate in the Real Talk Online sessions for all parents and students in Year 4 and Year 6. The parent session will be held via zoom tomorrow night (Tuesday 18 May) at 6.00pm. Further information and a link for the zoom session can be found on the flyer in the General Information section of this newsletter. Our Year 4 and Year 6 students will participate in zoom sessions throughout the day on Wednesday.

We are very fortunate to be participating in a Poetry Workshop tomorrow organised by the Dorothea McKellar Poetry Competition Committee. All students will work on their poetry writing with Brittany Reillythroughout the day.

NAPLAN concludes this week for students in Year 3 and Year 5. Today, students sat the Conventions of Language assessment (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and tomorrow they will sit the Numeracy assessment. All catch up assessments will be held on Wednesday and Thursday in the event of students being absent from school.

A special mention to Kayleigh Eather who celebrated her 12th birthday last Tuesday and to Kiarah Hill who will turn 8 this Friday 21st May. We hope you enjoy your special day!

Have a great week!

Nick
