From the Deputy Principal

Three things I am grateful for…

It is well known that being conscious of what we are grateful for is good for our wellbeing and sense of community. To this end, I would like to share three things that I have been grateful for this week…

On Wednesday we had the grand opening of our MAG Fitness Centre. To have such a motivated group of teachers, lead by our Head of PDHPE Ms Bri Bennett and Mr Greg Cadd, Co-curricular Coordinator, to get our impressive MAG Fitness Centre up and running for our students and to organise such an remarkable Opening Ceremony is something I am certainly grateful for.

Later that same day I was walking through the Primary School and came across Mrs Pedrana’s Year 4 class testing the sundials they had made. The students were grateful for the moment when the sun came out, so they could tell the time using their sundials, I was grateful for the way the students we so happy to chat to me about their sundials. How welcoming our students are, is something that many people in the wider community often comment to me about when talking about our students. The Year 4 students were no different.

Still on the same day, I happened to pop into Mrs Cowin’s Year 5 classroom, who had one of our wonderful CRT teachers working with the students in her absence. The students were learning about angles, and they invited me to do an impromptu maths lesson for them. For those who don’t know, before I became Deputy Principal I was a maths teacher so I was very grateful to be invited to join in as guest maths teacher. I was particularly impressed with the quality of questions the students asked me during my time in their classroom. We are currently focussing on a Deep Learning project here at school and the kind of questions I was being asked indicated to me that Mrs Cowin had obviously been doing some great work with this group of students. Their questions showed an excellent insight into how angles are measured and how the way of measuring angles can be applied to different types of angles.

The above three events that I described my gratefulness for all happened on the same day. This just highlights how easy it is to find things to be grateful for when you are part of the Moama Anglican Grammar community! There were plenty more for the rest of the week and I am sure you would have heard about many of these from your child(ren)!

As it is coming up to the end of Semester One students will be getting an end of Semester Report. These are generated in SEQTA. As SEQTA updates it processes, we will be from time to time updating how we report on student academic and pastoral progress. In line with this and to reflect our current school wide Deep Learning project we have recently updated the Learning Attributes for the Secondary school Reports. Secondary students will be graded on the Learning Attributes listed in the table below:

Teachers will use the Rubric below to assign the relevant grades for each of the above Learning Attributes. The tables above and below will be included in the general information at the front of the reports.

As we head into a lovely three-week break soon, take the time to be grateful for your friends and family and most of all for a community that embraces Deep Learning, Diversity and Dazzle – the Moama Anglican Grammar community! Stay safe, take care of each other and I hope all our students enjoy their well-earned break. One week to go!
