Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week I would like to acknowledge one of our staff who recently retired this term.

Mrs Milmoe, was a teacher in our school community for over 31 years and spent 41 years with the Education Department.

In that time Mrs Milmoe guided hundreds of students in their early years at various schools, providing them with a wonderful foundation for their subsequent years at school in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.

In more recent times Mrs Milmoe used her dual role of Senior class teacher and Learning Support Coordinator to assist staff develop and deliver programs and assistance for individual students across the school liaising with many outside agencies.

Her dedication, knowledge, leadership and enthusiasm greatly enhanced the outcomes of these students.

Mrs Milmoe was part of many initiatives and worked closely with staff during transition activities as well as supported parents ‘ in the education of their children

The Education Department Director General recognised the work of Mrs Milmoe with a certificate and silver struck medallion for her service to Education in Western Australia.

On behalf of our school community we wish Mrs Milmoe all the very best in her retirement.

Congratulations to our Cricket teams on placing 2nd and 3rd at last week’s Cricket carnival. Thank you to Mrs Foster and Mr Robinson for training the group.

The basket in the office for donations to St Pats in Fremantle is being collected by the Fremantle Rotary Club on Monday. If you would like to make a donation of a non-perishable food item could arrange to drop it off on Monday morning to the office?

Thank you to the staff who this week have engaged the students in a number of activities for Reconciliation Week.

Swimming classes for years 4-6 will be held at the State Swim pool in East Fremantle. Between the 8th and 11th of June due to renovations to the Fremantle Pool.

What a wonderful Disco last Friday night. Congratulations to the year 6 parents and also senior students for all of their organisation. It was very much appreciated by all of the children who attended.

In the coming weeks we have some Bike Education activities organised after receiving some Grants through the ‘Your Move’ group which is part of the Department of Transport.

These activities include:

  • A Bike repair day through the ‘Bike Doctor.’
  • Bike education Lessons for Year 3 through ‘People on Bicycles.’
  • The design of a brochure to highlight various routes to school and footpath markings to define checking points before crossing roads. This is through ‘Westcycle.’

Congratulations to all of our students who were involved with the NAPLAN program and to the staff who along with Ms Tingle prepared the students for the assessments across Numeracy and Literacy.

We had an excellent turnout for our ‘Walk to School’ program initiative with over 130 students walking, cycling or scootering all or part of the way to school then enjoying a snack and entry into the raffle before heading to class. We also had a number of students who wrote up some great explanations of what HEALTHY meant to them. These were written on foot prints and then pinned up for everyone to see during the recess breaks. Here are some examples.

‘Healthy means that you are fit and strong and you eat healthy food.’-Ally.

‘Healthy means to me that you eat healthy food, exercise and live a great life.’-Millie.

‘Being healthy is important in your life so eat fruit!’-Clancy.

‘Healthy means to exercise and have a healthy diet.’-Gabe.

‘Healthy means that you are fit and ready for the next day.’-Leo.

‘Healthy means eating healthy food like fruit and vegetables to help make you strong.’- Sammy.

‘Healthy means to be fit, happy, good natured and joyful.’-Nancy.

‘To be healthy is to be here and to enjoy the moment.’-Iris.

‘Healthy means exercising, drinking and eating in a good way.’-Ivy.

Two of our classes enjoyed a Pizza and drink lunch recently being the two classes who raised the most money during our school Colour Run. Other Spot prizes of canteen vouchers were also awarded across the school.

Well done to our year 2 class for their very informative assembly on Financial Literacy and the history of money. Their Rap tune was brilliant. Thank you to Mrs Kitson and Mrs Rosman for preparing the group.

There will be a Public holiday on Monday 7 June.
