Principal's Message

Aspire Celebrate Reflect

Dear Parents,

This week we celebrated Adventure and Environment, two pillars of Round Square and two areas important to all of us here at the College.

Our Adventure Captain, Patsy Ryan Betts abseiled down into assembly and highlighted the fun that can be had during our Outdoor Education programme. I also want to highlight how important Outdoor Education is as part of our holistic education program for your children.

There is no alternative program offered if a child does not attend Outdoor Ed, just as there would be no alternative program offered if a student decided not to attend English or Maths.

Why do we place such importance on our Outdoor Ed expeditions? Partly to counterbalance the constant absorption of our students with (and by) technology and their devices. Skills and lessons learned on these expeditions cannot be taught in a traditional classroom, yet those skills are transferable to all areas of your child's life. It is also a unique opportunity for our students to appreciate our local natural environment, an opportunity that is not available to the majority of students in Australia. The historical, cultural and natural beauty of our environment is evident for our students as they go through the different stages of our Outdoor Ed program and discover the Western MacDonnell Ranges and other regions around the country. I wish all our students who have yet to embark on their year level Outdoor Ed expedition a wonderful time.

I would also like to draw your attention to the first article in this week's newsletter.

This week we launch our 2021 Outback Achiever Appeal and we have some exciting plans for the development of a Discovery Precinct (incorporating a Discovery Centre and a Sustainability Centre) now to be located on our main College campus.

I invite you to read our Outback Achievers magazine which provides a comprehensive description about this new development and other achievements within our College and community.

Thank you and Be Kind Always,

~ Mr Roger Herbert
