SPC Boarding  News

Ahhhh Week 4!! We are nearly halfway through Term 2 (YIPPEEE) and SPC boarders are going gangbusters. With many great experiences had, and fantastic growth shown by all, to say the boarders are impressing us would be an understatement.

This week, through the hard work of everyone, we have built upon some of our core foundations of resilience, confidence and commitment to oneself and others. This was touched on at the weekly Thursday evening SPCB (SPC Boarding) meeting – our current goal is to take self-management to the next level. From feeling comfortable to sharing ideas and feelings, to keeping our peers accountable for their actions, we have been truly proud to see our young people transition into proud young men and women.

A huge thank you goes to Marea Moulton for organising a fun filled Saturday orienteering activity and to Nicole Avery, Jill Jansons, Donna Fennell, William Phelps and Sue Herbert for taking time out of their weekend to help. Everyone started on the College campus and both boarding houses made their way through Alice Springs town in true Amazing Race style activity, finishing at the botanical gardens for a beautiful Thai dinner.  Although not a competition, some boys flew to the front and finished the course in a flash, whereas some of the other boarders took their time to enjoy to afternoon. We finished the night sitting around the new camp fire pit telling stories and enjoying each other’s company.

The first event for the Week 4 occurred Monday evening; all boarders spent just over an hour photographing their hearts out, attempting to get the shot of the night at the clay pans. Some boarders took the power of the camera and began taking photos of their friends as if they were in a photo shoot for Vogue, while others took photos of the stunning reflection and sunset. Fun was had by all and was even described as being, “good for the soul”.

Football, netball, oztag, volleyball and basketball are keeping the boarders busy during the week. With football and netball seasons in full swing, it is great to see the comradeship of the athletes and collectiveness of the boarding houses on full display when bus loads travel to games to support their fellow peers.

The Year 7 camp is coming up. Mountain bike riding, orienteering, bushwalking and a trip to the Desert Park are some of the brilliant activities our boarders will be participating in. Have fun and we look forward to hearing all about it.

To our boarders, well done on getting to the end of Week 4 - the hard work is not over yet. The next few weeks will be working together to earn the best semester report they can.

Girls' Boarding News

Over the weekend the girls boarding house was buzzing with girls coming in and out.

Saturday morning started with a special treat of bacon and egg muffins thanks to Karen Fleming.

After a hectic day at sport all boarders we off on the Amazing Race and finished the night with a lovely campfire, as mentioned in the previous text.

Sunday morning brought a trip to the Sunday markets for some, or a sleep in for others. This was a great time off campus and was fantastic to see what locals had to offer.

Tuesday morning resulted in some incredibly proud boarding staff. Tuesday was the first morning for Term 2 where the girls took the responsibility of waking up by themselves and did it flawlessly. I’m excited to see the great work continue for the rest of the term.

This weekend we are hoping for a trip into town, playing in the heated pools and other fun activities for the girls to get involved in.

Remember to keep up to date with your schoolwork, keep pushing yourself and aim to be a better person then you were the day prior!

Boys' Boarding News

Another week of opportunities were enthusiastically taken up by the boys. After a shared activity on Saturday evening, the boys filled their weekend with shopping trips, playing and watching footy and plenty of mountain bike riding and skating.

With our focus on developing self management skills this term, it is rewarding to see so many demonstrating an understanding of ‘what it looks like’, and being proud of themselves when ‘they do it’.

Well done to Pedrea Jackson on further involvement this week on the set of a new film, ‘Maverick’, to Keegan Keen on his attendance at an Aspire workshop, to Liam Parslow on his role in the ‘Environment Assembly’, to the Year 8 boy campers who all ‘survived and thrived’ on the Year 8 expedition, and to Samson Jones on his Rovers footy award.

Special thanks this week to Stacey Gill for taking the boys on two rides after school and to Tim Schofield on being the Feds footy team taxi.

Well done boys on another positive week of learning!
