Green Group Newsletter

In Green Group we have been learning all about Reconciliation week. We introduced this concept by looking at the Earth through Google Earth and exploring the different countries of the world. The children were observant as they knew that the blue on the earth was the ocean and the green was the land, we looked closer at Australia and discussed how we are an island surrounded by water and mentioned that the Aboriginal people were first in Australia and other people came to settle in Australia using boats to cross the ocean.

We learnt that the land is very special to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and how they used the land to inspire and create artwork.

As a group we adventured outside to collect some leaves, sticks and rocks to use as paint brushes for our artwork. Each child painted a picture using the natural materials to paint and experimenting with the different effect they made. When children were finished they washed the paint from the rocks, sticks and leaves and returned them back to the land.
