Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

Dear Primary Families,

Last Saturday I enjoyed the opportunity to join in the annual Old Boys Day during the 1st XI Football and 1st XV Rugby games. This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with former students of the College, some of whom had not seen Marist since their graduation day. In my conversations throughout the day, I noted the pride in which each of these old boys (now men) spoke about their time at Marist College Ashgrove and the special place the school still holds in their hearts. As an Old Boy myself, it was a humble reminder of what a privilege it is to be the Head of Primary at a College with such a rich history.

Term 2 Sport Thank You

Last weekend our Football and Rugby teams played the final rounds of their season. In total we had 18 teams wearing the blue and gold each weekend, all of who represented the College with pride. My sincere thanks to all the coaches who provided these opportunities for our students and to Mr John Lambourne (Head of Primary Sport) for all his efforts in ensuring the season ran smoothly. I look forward to seeing you all around the grounds at basketball, rugby league and tennis next term.

Athletics Carnival

Our Primary Athletics Carnival will take place this Friday. Please see the information in the sports section below about the format of the day. The Mission Department will be running a sausage sizzle in Break 1 for $2 and selling cookies at Break 2 for $1. Boys can pay with monitor or cash, with all funds raised donated to Marist Solidarity. Boys will not be able to access the Tuckshop during break times.

Primary Assembly

Next Tuesday morning the primary school will come together in the Draney theatre for our end of term assembly. This is an opportunity for our community to gather in prayer and present our Primary Champagnat Awards and Term 2 Sportsman Awards. Due to Covid restrictions, we have only been able to invite a small number of families to this assembly.

Technology Incursion

Next Monday and Tuesday our Year 6 classes will be involved in a technology incursion. During the sessions, at the Cyprian Pavilion, the boys will be engaged in robotics and problem-solving activities.

Report Cards

A Semester 1 Progress Report will be distributed at the end of Semester 1. As always, student results and comments can be accessed via the Parent Portal. This will be followed by Parent/Teacher interviews in October.

Extended Absentee Reminder

A reminder that if your son is required to be absent for longer than three days, then a request for leave is required via: PrimaryAbsentees@marash.qld.edu.au.

Student Learning Devices

All students are asked to return their Chromebooks to the laptop trolleys in their classrooms at the end of Term 2. If your son has scheduled leave before the end of term, please ensure their device is returned on their last day at school.

True Colours Day

Last Wednesday our Year 5 and 6 students were invited to dress in maroon and blue to show their allegiance ahead of the first game of State of Origin. The boys enjoyed this opportunity to show their true colours. Our NSW supported also enjoyed the opportunity to remind the Queensland supporters of the result on Thursday morning.

Trivia Tuesday

Our Trivia Tuesday fun continues this week. Boys are asked to submit their answers via email to beattyl@marash.qld.edu.au with a prize to be awarded at the following week’s morning assembly. Congratulations to last week’s winner Thomas Davis (5V) who got the following answers right:

St Marcellin Champagnat was born in Le Rosey, village of Marlhes, France.

We had 18 football and rugby teams in Term 2.

This week’s questions:

  1. How many Primary teachers are Old Boys of the College?
  2. What are the names of the two Old Boys who host the Champagnat Trust Sports Lunch?

Answers will be in next week’s newsletter
