Year 8

The last fortnight has been very eventful! Year 8 students have been involved in SCSA Basketball, SEGAP Junior sport, Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical, the House Fun Run, Big Science Competition, 'Elevate' Time Management Seminar. Next week, we will be partaking in the DAV Junior Public Speaking Competition. All this on top of the hefty business of learning, improving and developing!

Students have been spirited and enthusiastic, which is an absolute delight to be a part of. The House Fun Run was a joyous experience. The students were so happy and excited to be out in the fresh air, in a lovely environment, with their friends. It was a fantastic atmosphere and I could not be prouder of the way they conducted themselves.

In the last Pastoral session, 'Elevate Education' presented on 'Time Management', which I hope the girls discussed with you and gained value from. Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive.

I was also very impressed with the Year 7 and 8 Elevate Parent Seminar on 20 May. Parents who attended reported real value from the presentation. As an educator and parent myself, I found the session to be highly relevant and pragmatic. I encourage parents to try to attend the parent seminars that are offered as they really are beneficial.

Post COVID, there is no doubt that students are enjoying learning onsite again. Some students have experienced challenges getting back to 'normal', as the last year has had an impact. Each student learns differently and adjusting back to post COVID reality can be challenging. There is no doubt that last year challenged all of us in a myriad of ways. We all cope and adapt differently. We, as a college community, are consciously aware of this and we are determined to do what it takes to support you and your children during this time.

Below are some student reflections on recent activities. Best wishes for the next couple of weeks,

SCSA Basketball (from one of our state prospects!)

It was a team effort and we all shot a lot of shots! So proud of everyone!

Elevate Education Session

During our recent Pastoral Homeroom period, the Year 8 students had the pleasure of meeting David and many other young presenters from 'Elevate Education'.

‘Elevate Education’ spoke about beating procrastination and being organised. It was insightful, interactive and a fun seminar, but most importantly we were taught helpful tips and tricks that we can put into practice now and for our future years ahead, at the College and beyond!

House Fun Run

On 25 May I completed the House Fun Run. Each Year 7 and 8 class got onto buses and we drove down to Karkarook Park to get ready for the race. At first I was quite nervous, but they said we had a choice if we wanted to run or walk. I was still going to run but it did make things more relaxed. Once we got to the park, the students who wanted to run began to line up ready to start. I was next to my friends at the beginning and I felt full of energy and ready to race!

After a kilometre or two, I was really starting to get tired. Although I ran the whole time, I was considering stopping to catch my breath. Once I ended the race, I congratulated my friends as they crossed the finish line and ate two delicious chocolate chip muffins that were being handed out.

Overall, I ended up coming 3rd in my race and really enjoyed being there with my friends and I’m excited to be a part of future races.
