Reconciliation Week
Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation Takes Action.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.
NATIONAL SORRY DAY
Last Wednesday, a selection of Indigenous students walked down to Monash Park accompanied by Leanne Pellegrino (Catholic Identity Leader) to acknowledge the anniversary of National Sorry Day. The students placed decorated feet templates along a path leading to the flag poles at the park.
The students met dignitaries; Mayor Kim O’Keefe and Aunty Faye Lynam and they listened to Local Elder and member of the Stolen Generations Aunty Faye Lynam who was a guest speaker for the day. They also listened to students from secondary schools around Shepparton to read their apology aloud.
It was a very moving experience which touched the hearts of all our students who attended.
Reconciliation Week Activities
Across the school ALL students were involved in a creative art activity, in which the students painted indigenous inspired patterns on native animal shapes and placed them on coloured sticks and in our courtyard gardens.
