Values in Action

After a few lockdown hurdles, we are very excited that at this week’s assembly our first recipients of the ‘Values in Action’ certificates will be awarded. Our staff has been keeping a lookout for who has been showing the value of ‘Responsible.’ These students are then nominated and a responsible few will be celebrated at this week’s virtual assembly on Friday and then shared in the next newsletter. We look forward to highlighting how our values are shown throughout our school.

Attendance – EVERYDAY COUNTS

Now that we are back onsite together school attendance and arriving on time are more important than ever.

Being at school and arriving on time is essential to your child getting the best of their education and building those social connections that are vital to learning and engagement.

Attendance and the reduction of unexplained absences are a focus of the Department of Education. Every day counts and below are some interesting facts regarding the effects of school attendance:

  • Attendance and engagement are preconditions for maximising learning and wellbeing outcomes for students
  • Absence is a lead indicator for achievement and engagement outcomes
  • There is a strong correlation between student attendance and learning outcomes
  • Even small amounts of unauthorised absences are associated with substantial falls in average NAPLAN test scores
  • Even an 80% attendance rate is the equivalent of missing one day per week or 40 days per year or over 2.5 years

Please remember we are here to help, if you are having trouble with school attendance or arriving on time make time to speak with your child’s teacher and/or the wellbeing team.
