Mini-Olympics Day
On Tuesday 27 July, our specialist classes devoted the day to celebrate the Olympic Games. Students made incredible thematic work about the Olympic Rings, competed in remote-learning-friendly sporting events, and participated in dramatic, musical, and linguistical events as well.
We called the day the Mini-Olympics. To find out more: read on?

Music
From Eleanor about Music
Students were introduced to fanfares (short musical announcements) and asked to create one using instruments or improvised equipment from home, such as a toilet roll trumpet, saucepan drum, or banana bugle.
At home, students were invited to ascend the winners’ podium in any event of their choosing. Each student was reminded that for the NMPS Specialist Olympics, your strength can lie in any arena, be it sporting, creative arts, language, kindness, or friendship. These were recorded in home videos. Above are some examples of student fanfares.
We had triumphant Olympians rising to the podium for a range of imaginary events, including wrestling, equestrian, playschool, tennis, and downball. Entrants included NMPS students, baby brothers and sisters, teddies, and even a stuffed banana!
Congratulations to all participants and many thanks to family members at home who helped out with filming, mouth trumpets, instrumental accompaniment, and moral support.
Special congratulations to our medal winners from each year level. Your names will be forwarded to Mark and Ben, for points to be added to their Mini Olympics tally.

Auslan
Auslan classes explored three events to share their knowledge, their skills, and to compete.
The first event was learning about the Deaflympics. Unfortunately, the 2021 Deaflympics were postponed due to Covid-19, however, it is scheduled to occur next year instead!
Here is the official website of the Deaflympics if you want to explore.
The second event was speed fingerspelling. Each cohort will be judged on the speed and accuracy of their fingerspelling of the whole alphabet with a Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal being awarded to the top three in each cohort. Results are still being tallied!
The third event was signing the different sports of the Olympics/Deaflympics. We have continued learning these in class as we have come back to school. Here is another website that you can explore that can show you some signs that you be interested in learning: Find Sign
