SAVE THE DATE!

Winter Concert rescheduled to Tuesday 27th July 7pm

We are very pleased to announce that the Music Department Winter Concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday 27th July at 7pm (week 3 of term 3).

The original date almost sold out, so we are hoping to honour all those tickets depending on COVID-19 restriction announcements next term.  If for any reason ticket holders can't attend the new date, they will be fully refunded. If we are able to offer extra tickets they will be made open to the public through CompassTix early in term 3.

Thank you for all your support and understanding at this time.

NAIDOC Week Lunchtime Concert

On Thursday the 24th June, members of the school Rock Program combined to create an All Star band. Their purpose was to perform at a lunchtime concert to belatedly celebrate NAIDOC week.

With very short notice they had learnt the song “Beds Are Burning” by Midnight Oil. They performed it on the Music Centre outdoor stage at lunchtime to a large gathering of students and teachers, thirsty for some live music. The band didn’t disappoint with a solid performance of the tune about Aboriginal land rights.

Congratulations to all the band members who did incredibly well to learn the song at short notice, then play it together for the first time on the day during sound check, then to smash it out on stage to an excited audience.

After playing Beds Are Burning, the lunchtime concert continued with individual bands performing to the receptive audience. They played songs by Pavement, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Maroon 5 and even Dragon. It was a fantastic way to finish up a challenging term and was a credit to the bands who have stayed motivated and achieved so much this semester. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Thank you to Cathy Bedson for arranging NAIDOC week and to Wendy Howes for all your support and videoing the performances.

REHEARSALS ARE BACK IN FULL SWING

Well done to all the ensembles for getting back into the rehearsal routine quickly after our latest lockdown. We look forward to having everyone attending each rehearsal leading up to the rescheduled Winter Concert next term.

THANKS FOR A GREAT FIRST SEMESTER!

Thank you Music students and parents for all your efforts and support during this semester. We were so pleased that the Music Camp went ahead and was such a huge success. Those who were able to attend had a ball and their playing improved out of sight. Unfortunately we were shattered when we couldn’t show off all the good work the students had done on camp at the Winter Concert. We have all our fingers and toes crossed that they can perform to a large audience, at the rescheduled Winter Concert on the 27th of July.

Have a happy and safe holiday break.
