From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's Primary School,

Congratulations to the students who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last Thursday and Friday evening at St Agatha's Church. The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the three initiation sacraments that include Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong. During your Baptism, Catholic parents and godparents make promises to renounce Satan and believe in God and the Church on their child's behalf. At Confirmation, the child who is now old enough to make their own choices renews those same promises.

During Confirmation, the focus is on the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them the courage to practice their faith. Catholics believe that the same Holy Spirit confirms Catholics during the Sacrament of Confirmation and gives them the same gifts.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all involved in the preparation of the students who made their Confirmation. Thanks especially to Father Joseph, Father Stanely, Sister Mary, Michelle Hinds, all the senior staff and parents of the students. We were lucky to have Bishop Greg confirm our Year 6 students from 2020 as well as 2021.

Thank you to those parents who sent in these photos of their children receiving their certificates after the Confirmation ceremony. We were blessed to be able to celebrate this sacrament in the Church this year!

This week we were able to hold our own Mini Olympics! The Year 3 and 4 students along with their teachers organised and led the day. Before it started I had the opportunity to speak to the Year 3 and 4 students and I asked them what they would need to do to be good leaders for the day. They said they would need to encourage each other to give their best efforts, they would need to communicate clearly with clear instructions and explain the expectations for each activity. I was impressed with the responsibility that they showed throughout the day as our emerging leaders.

On behalf of all students and staff, I thank the Middle School Teachers who made this day happen - Maddie Foster, Meghan Brockman, Jackie Bishop, and Jane Heard. The students gave their own presentation to Miss Foster who had the idea and guided the organisation of the day.

Well done to all the students on this day. We were lucky with the weather too. It was a great day for everyone.

Looking forward, it is disappointing that some of our community events have been cancelled at this time. We are looking to reschedule events such as the Prayers in Pajamas evenings, School Photos, etc. I will keep you informed as we find new dates and work towards ensuring we can hold School Community events in a COVID Safe way.

Have a lovely week and enjoy the photos on the Around the Classes page in this newsletter!
