Week 7 Term 3

Art

The Preps used various tools to print with paint, creating a grey, winter's day adding carefully cut paper shapes to look like a person walking through the wild weather.

Grade One and Two have been exploring puppets. They folded paper into 'chatterboxes' then turned them into all kinds of funny creatures by adding paper features such as tongues, eyes, spikes, curls, teeth and tails.

The Threes and Fours used clay to carefully make penguins. They looked at pictures of real penguins, discussing the features and how they behave in order to make their penguins look realistic.

The Fives and Sixes have been creating 3D Shrek character models. They have used newspaper and masking tape to form their character's shape before beginning to add head detail with Paper Magic.

Maker Space

This week we have been finishing off our planning and designs for this term’s challenges.

The grade 2s are creating their dream bedroom out of recycled and repurposed materials.

The grade 3/4 students are creating a character completely out of recycled or repurposed materials that also incorporates a working electrical circuit and who can help us with some tips on how to make a positive difference in our community.

The grade 5/6 students are creating a model of an eco-friendly house, with working electrical circuit, to educate others on sustainable and community minded building practices.

The designs are looking fabulous so our final prototypes are going to be amazing!

MUSIC

Just an update regarding our production of 'Shrek Junior The Musical'. Unfortunately we have had to postpone the performance that was to be held on the 8th and 9th of September.

Our new dates are Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th of November Week 8 Term 3.

Grade 3 will be performing on the Tuesday night and Grade 4 performing on the Wednesday night.

During Remote Learning we are running online ‘Shrek rehearsals’ for the grade 5 and 6 students that have dialogue. Grade 3 and 4 students also rehearsed the vocals and choreography for their numbers. Grade 3- 6 rehearsals are currently on a Wednesday and the students that are required for these rehearsals will be notified via ‘Teams’. Thank you to all of those students who have attended these rehearsals and are also practising regularly at home. Wednesday’s rehearsals were amazing!

The Wednesday grid activities have also included all of the material required for every grade 3-6 student to keep practising their songs and choreography. This material is available in Showbie. The code is 4TDJN.

Prep Musical Bugz

The Prep students are very excited and are enjoying learning the songs and movements for our mini musical called ‘Bugz’. Most students have now been allocated which bug character they are and costume planning has begun with some volunteer parents from Prep. Thankyou to those that have already put their hand up to assist. It’s not too late to join the team and we would love some more helpers. Please let the office know if you are available – any small or large contribution of time would be wonderful! We will be having a meeting together once we are back at school (date TBC). There will be a small costume levy that we will be asking each student to contribute to. Further details of this will follow.

Due to density limits at the Warrandyte High School theatre, we will be holding two performances, both on the same night, Tuesday October 19th at 6pm and then again at 7pm (Term 4 Week 3, subject to covid restrictions easing). Families will be able to attend one show only. Tickets will go on sale in Term 4.

Thankyou to all the students that have joined the ‘Bugz’ Showbie class and have been practising their singing and dancing at home! This is really important as we are spending more time at home that we anticipated in the lead up to the performance. There are still about 10 students who haven’t joined so please check your child’s Showbie account. The code is CWVY2

Grade 1/2 Musical ‘It’s a Jungle Out There’

During music lessons this term, Grade 1 and 2 students have been preparing a short musical that will be a culmination of our topic of drama. As this year is an ‘off’ year for the 1/2s, this is a bit of an extra chance to perform to make up a little for the impact of covid in 2020. They will be performing at school with minimal costumes and props, for an audience of their peers. We are not sure yet whether parents will be able to attend so at the very least it will be filmed and distributed so that you can celebrate their hard work and see them shine!

There are still about 20 students who haven’t joined the ‘It’s a Jungle Out There’ Showbie class where they’ll find all the songs, movement videos and lyrics. Please encourage your child to join if they haven’t already. The code is YYEUF
