Principal's Message

Week 7 Term 3

Well who would  have thought that after such a short return to school after lockdown 5.0, we would find ourselves in lockdown 6.0 and back into remote and flexible learning. To have been able to shift back at such short notice and then tweak structures as remote learning has been extended, shows the resilience and dedication of our remarkable students, staff and families.

With these uncertain times it is paramount that we look after ourselves and each other. The daily 3Cs call, small and whole group teaching calls and the wellbeing and connection calls are important ways that we keep students connected with their teachers and peers.  We thank parents for the support they give their child/children to make it to these calls, giving them the opportunity to maintain connections.  Congratulations to our Grade 6 leaders who are working with Mrs Carroll to create a wonderful Weekly Assembly. Another lovely way to help keep everyone connected!

Although remote learning can present challenges to families, we know that having  structure and routine contributes to children's wellbeing and engagement in their learning.  The online learning calls, either as a whole class, or small group are important for students to attend, as this is where the teacher is providing explicit instruction and explaining the tasks that students will complete each day.  Many levels also have set times where teachers are online so that students can touch base for extra assistance and feedback. We acknowledge and understand that remote learning looks different in every homevine, with its own sets of joys and challenges.  We also know that families and children will have good days and some days when it's harder to feel motivated. So our message to families is that you know your child/children and how they are travelling.  We appreciate everything that families are doing to support their child/children and understand that you are all doing your best to balance learning and wellbeing.  Please follow your intuition as a parent and chat to your child's classroom teacher if you have concerns.  We are here to support you and your family.  Please reach out if you need support.

After many weeks of remote learning we think it is time to get off our screens and spend a day learning in lots of other ways.  So, we have scheduled a 'screen-free recharge day' for  next Friday, September 3rd. Teachers will work with their students this week to plan a range of fun activities (that don't involve needing a screen) for next Friday.

Prep Imagination Garden

It has been exciting to see the transformation of our Prep Imagination Garden evolve.  The beautiful timber cubby has been installed as an exciting entrance to the space and  planting in the sensory garden has begun.  The water pump, new logs and stepping stones in the creek bed and the mud kitchen have been favourite places for families to visit throughout the lockdown.  Some final touches will be extensive planting of bamboo along the creek perimeter to complete the area and create a very special sense of wonder and joyful exploration.

To all of our dads, I hope you share some special moments with your kids on Father's Day, which is coming up very soon!

Hoping it is not too long before we see everyone back at school.

Stay safe

Julie
