Junior Sport

One week of remote learning down and another one nearly done. I hope that you are all enjoying the extra family time together and taking the opportunity to head outside for a walk, bike ride or another activity of your choosing. It is so important while remote learning that we get up and away from the screen and make our bodies do some work. There are so many benefits in doing this that go beyond keeping our bodies fit and healthy.

It can often be difficult to know where to start when it comes to being active. Often we are sold the idea that physical activity needs to be formalised, like training in the gym, swimming laps of the pool or playing in a team on Saturdays. In truth, it needs to be none of these things. It really does not matter what you do, as long as your heart rate is elevated and stays that way for around 30 minutes, always remembering to be safe with our movements. Shooting hoops in the backyard, jumping on the trampoline, playing Just Dance on the Xbox are all easy ways to be active; they are not hard to do and because they are fun, will give you a better chance of keeping your physical activity up and starting a new, positive behaviour. The great thing about exercise is that it makes you feel good; so, the more you do, the better you will feel. I would strongly encourage all the Junior School boys and their families to find ways to be active together during this lockdown period, hopefully creating a new healthy habit that will extend long after this lockdown has finished.

Just prior to the end of Term 2, Zac Bechara of Year 6 Gold was selected to play for the NSW Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) Rugby League Team. Zac travelled to Tamworth with the team to compete in a week-long rugby league competition. The NSWCIS Team played very well against some tough opposition, finishing 4th Place overall. Zac enjoyed solid performances throughout the week, crossing the line on multiple occasions for his side. Zac’s consistent, high level performance throughout the competition saw him rewarded with selection into the NSW side. Unfortunately, the boys will not be able to compete in the School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships as they have been cancelled for this year. I know you will all join me in congratulating Zac on his outstanding achievement. Well done.

As yet, there have been no concrete decisions made about the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) winter season. I will update the College community of any decisions made once the information comes to hand.

In the meantime, stay safe, healthy, and happy and play nicely with one another.
