Year 1 Narrative Writing

Here are some thoughts from Year 1 about the Narrative Writing we have been doing this week:

Nirav

'I learnt that a narrative is an imaginative story. They have an introduction, a problem and a solution. My story was about a traveller called Korok. It's going to be 2 and a quarter pages long.'

Kushi

'I wrote a narrative called Shimer and Lilly's House. The problem was that Lilly and Shimer's house was shaking. They got lots of unicorns with magic powers to solve the problem.'

Shamus

'My narrative is about a superhero defeating his enemies. The superhero solved the problem by pushing his enemies down the waterfall.'

Visual Art News

Students at Sacred Heart continue to enjoy their Visual Art sessions. The year 5/6s have been working on an activity based on optical illusions. We sometimes call optical illusions “tricking the eye,” but really it’s the brain that’s tricked as it tries to make sense of the visual information it’s receiving. Either way, seeing and creating optical illusions is a fun way for kids (and adults!) to learn about how our eyes and brain make sense of our world. Keep scrolling to see more optical illusions!

Tombola!

Oscar - Tombola is lots of fun to play! It's fun to play with friends and can be both exciting and frustrating.

John D.V. - I think Tombola should be a lunch time club because a lot of students would enjoy playing it. And it teaches you Italian numbers.

Hanna - When we played Tombola, I learnt a lot of the Italian numbers. I really enjoyed it!

Joshua G.K. - Tombola is good and it is also fun. It has its own personality and rules.

Thomas - Tombola is a game of patience that can pay off.

Grade 5/6 Maths Projects

Prior to entering lockdown 4.0, the Grade 5/6 students began a maths project on 3D Shapes. The students were asked to create a city, town or place, and construct all their shapes using nets. The project was paused for the two weeks we went into lockdown, but upon returning to school the students were still so enthusiastic and eager to keep building their towns. Jakob, Ryan & Jayben constructed Las Vegas. Ankita & Sylvie made a castle on a farm. Bernice, Anni & Nicola created a shopping centre. Harry & Brian constructed our beautiful city, Melbourne. Sienna, Liam, Elaine & Julian made a theme park. Josh M & Ahan made a city. Last but not least, Ria constructed a 6metre tower! The finished products are amazing and highlight everyone's creativity and ability to work collaboratively.

Respectful Relationships

With the students' learning interrupted with Lockdowns and disruptions aplenty, we in the Senior team felt it invaluable to explore the notion of gender relationships and how we

, interact and treat each other. Students have really enjoyed our weekly two hour sessions and have developed their understanding of what respect is.

In one of the activities, students were asked to rank their top 10 'verbs' that they value in positive relationships. Here are a few students thoughts on the matter....

Nicola

  1. Know   2. Laugh   3. Listen   4. Appreciate   5. Understand                                                   6. Love   7. Respect   8. Support   9. Trust   10. remember                                                      I chose these top ten verbs because I value having a friendship where you can always count on the person. So that when you need help they know how to support you and listen, that you know you can trust them. I found that having theses verbs in a friendship, the friendship can last a very long time!

Ryan

  1. Sympathise   2. Respect   3. Love   4. Welcome   5. Joke                                                       6. Appreciate   7. Entertain   8. Please  9. Look   10. Agree                                                                   I chose these words as my top ten, beacuse it is really important to understand peoples feelings like having sypmpathy for others and also respect for others. In a relationship to stay friends yo have to share, keep everything equal  and to help them when their down, and that is to understand their feelings so thats why I put sympathy as my top 1, because it is really important to keep a relationship with someone lasting

Ankita

  1. Love  2. Trust   3. Respect   4. Forgive   5. Support                                                                 6. Care   7. Motivate   8. Encourage   9. Congratulate   10. Consider                                                                                                                                                                                                            I chose these words as my top ten as I think it is really important to have a good understanding of the relationship you're in and who it is that you're friends with. The word trust comes into my head as soon as I hear the word relationship, as it is really important that you trust the person with what you are saying. I also think that love is  a really strong word as well. It truly demonstrates what a respectful relationship looks like. That's why I chose it as my number one.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Netball News

With disruptions to the Interschool Sports Competition, our student leaders took it upon themselves to organise a round robin netball competition between the football team, mixed netball team and the girls netball team; the winner destined to play the adults in the end of term TEACHERS V STUDENTS netball game.

Here's a report from one of the winning teams

Mixed Team 6   def  Football Team 5

Wednesday's game was a close one and we were amazed by the effort of both teams on the field. We would like to give a shout out to John, Bernice, Oscar and Jakob.  John has really improved as a centre and blew our minds with his skills. Bernice was a professional at finding space around the court to receive the ball. Oscar scored most of the goals for his team and Jakob played with one hand. Overall it was an outstanding game and we all enjoyed it.
