Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community

I would like to wish all our families a safe and hopefully restful break. If you are able to get away to a region of our big country that still has its borders open, I hope you and the family have a memorable time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of our school and congratulate you on the way you handled our lock down earlier this term. A reminder that school will finish at 3.20pm tomorrow and third term will commence on Monday 12th July.

Mid Year Reports P/T Interviews

All students will bring home their mid year report tomorrow. Due to some last minute technical issues, parents and guardians will not be able to access their child's report through the parent portal. Our teachers have been working diligently this past month, preparing these reports in an effort to capture their student's progress. When reading your child's report, we ask that you acknowledge and celebrate their accomplishments and be aware of the areas we will work on together, to improve your child's skills and understandings.

Our Parent/Teacher Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday 21st July. This will be an opportunity for all parents and guardians to discuss their child's report, ask questions, seek clarification and set a clear direction for continued learning in the second semester. Parent/Teacher Interview notes will be sent home on the first day of next term.

NAPLAN

A package containing our Year Three and Year Five student's NAPLAN results arrived earlier today. The leadership team will be looking at the results and the overall trend of the data over the next few days. The results will be sent home on the first day of school next term, so parents have enough time  to familiarise themselves with the data, and raise any questions at the Parent/Teacher Interviews.

Uniform shop

I would ask parents to be aware that there will be a slight increase in the school uniform prices as of Monday 12th July. We are very lucky at Sacred Heart, to have parents who volunteer and give up their time to run the shop and keep prices of our uniforms at a reasonable level. Dani and Jarina spoke to me earlier this term about raising prices due to the increased costs the uniform shop is incurring, the price rises are as a result of these talks.

Next term we are having a creative writing competition for all students in our school. A very generous family will be donating  a prize for the best piece of creative writing in each year level. Further details will be given out next term, however in the meantime, the competition will be looking for short stories, recounts, argumentative pieces (from our older students) and information reports that are exciting to read and are creatively written. Thank you to the family who are donating the prizes and wish to remain anonymous.

Students verses Teachers Netball Game

Tomorrow afternoon we are finishing the term with a students verses teacher's netball match. We have deliberately made it at 2.40pm on the last day of the term, as we anticipate some very tired  and sore teachers at the conclusion of the game against their much younger, vibrant and highly skilled opponents.

Premier's Reading Challenge

After last years offsite learning, we would like to invite our students to again take part in the annual Premier's Reading Challenge. Our Librarian Gerry has included some preliminary information below. Our students will be given more information on how to participate next term. I invite parents, guardians and students to visit the website listed below, for some more information on the challenge.

Please take care.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Tierney

Principal

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Sacred Heart Primary School is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
