From the Head of Boarding

Farewell

Well done, GSG, one and all.  It was a challenging year like no other we've experienced and GSG boarders largely went about their business with smiling faces and sustained enthusiasm. I've enjoyed being a part of this community for the past three years and will miss a great deal about this place.

I'll miss the stories of what happened during the day at school as the boarders come flooding in through the front doors amidst a flurry of hands grabbing afternoon tea and Milo. The best of these stories are saved for times when they reminisce about the years gone by, and there's plenty of laughter when this happens.

I'll miss seeing those moments when the boarders 'get it'. We're all about showing respect for each other and this can be as easy as asking, "How were your holidays?" or taking the time to say "goodbye" and "thank you" on their last day of the year.

I'll miss seeing students dig deep when things get tough, finding a way through, whether it be an assessment, a tricky social situation or a sporting challenge. I'll miss the positive and supportive parents who are on this journey every step of the way with your children.

Boarding staff have the privilege of steering young people through the complexities of adolescence and I can honestly say this current group are amongst the most caring and professional team I've worked with. Completely focused on creating the best possible boarding environment, all of our staff work tirelessly in support of each other and the children in their care. GSG boarding is in good hands and I wish everyone the best of luck in the coming year and beyond.

Marsh Award

In 2018, the boarding team began to identify the qualities we would like to see developed in every GSG boarder. These qualities can be found in the Boarding Pillars and describe the elements of School, Service, Spirituality and Self. Boarders who demonstrate strong character in line with these ideals are noted and can earn points towards an award we named in honour of our recently retired, long-serving chaplain, Reverend Rod Marsh.

In Term Three, the first recipients of the Marsh Award were celebrated at a Chapel service, and in Term Four, we congratulated a further three boarders at the annual Christmas dinner. These students not only demonstrated a commitment to achieving their best for themselves, but they have also consistently participated in community events and volunteered to help others.

Congratulations to Jessica Dolan, Fletcher Cugley, Mitchell Hawley, Bethany Robertson, Hamish Medway, Daniel Fisher and Darcy Barrett.
