Kitchen Garden News

The year 3 and 4 students have enjoyed their first kitchen Garden classes. We have begun the year by talking about what foods give us long lasting energy. Then we all came together to make Vietnamese rice paper rolls, which were enjoyed outside.

Next week we will all dig into the kitchen garden program and start in the garden, where we will harvest cucumbers, herbs and tomatoes and discover the giant zucchini which has been growing in the garden all summer. Then we will come into the kitchen and cook up a storm.

We will also enjoy riding our smoothie bike to make hummus and a salsa verde. The menu will be:

  • Rosemary Lavosh
  • Hummus
  • Raw zucchini salad
  • Summer tabbhouleh
  • Plums topped with yoghurt honey and mint

Some of the vegetables and fruits the students will harvest for their lunch will be:

  • Cucumber
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Basil
  • Mint
  • Parsley
  • Rosemary
  • Fennel seeds
  • Plums

Happy cooking and gardening.

Cheers,

Betty
