WELLBEING
Up Day
On Monday 7th December students will be taking part in Up Day. This is where students get to meet their new teacher, students and classroom for 2021. Students will arrive at their own classrooms for morning prayer and yarning circle time, they will then go to their 2021 classrooms for the morning. Here they will be involved in a number of activities to assist them in beginning to make connections with their new teacher and classroom peers.
Mental Health Support for Young People
Many of you may have recently received a letter from our Prime Minister, the CEO for the National Mental Health Commission and the Minister for Education in regards to the Mental Health and Career Support for Young People that can now be accessed as a result of the events of 2020, including COVID-19 that have changed the way we live, learn and work.
Through your General Practitioner(GP) if you or your child experiences persistent health issues that interfere with your lives, please talk to your GP, who is your gateway to mental health and other health services. Under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you can now receive 20 Medicare subsidised therapy sessions from an eligible mental health professional. In the past the number of sessions available was 10. Please remember if you have any wellbeing concerns for your child please contact me and if needed I can put you in contact with Ellie Nicolay our School Psychologist. Ellie is available each Thursday for student access.
As always with the end of year approaching levels of anxiety and a sense of being heightened can occur in our children. This can be expressed in a number of ways including; behavioural issues, social issues amongst peers as well as compliance. We can do a few simple things to assist our children through these times;
- Keep bed time as normal as possible
- Be prepared for the week ahead as much as possible
- Ensure you have communicated all events happening with your child, changes in routine can cause children to be heightened.
- Eating healthy and having times of normality will also help.
This will be my last newsletter for the year. And what a year it has been. A huge thank-you to every person in our community for getting us all through this year. I won’t lie, at times it has been extremely challenging and stressful. But yet here we are at the end of another year and looking forward in anticipation to all that may eventuate in 2021. Let’s hope it’s not more remote learning!
Take care and enjoy time with family and friends over this very different holiday season.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Georgia McNamara
